They seem happy as Larry (whoever he is). Have seen two of them swimming up and downthe side of the tank but no other signs of pairing. Will try mushroom and mango next...what algae are they known to eat?

DIY Project DIY Water Changer, No more buckets!!

Re: My Water Changer The method I use on mine is a T piece on the inlet and out let from my canister, close to the filter with taps after the T pieces and on the t'ed off pipes. I can then use 5 gallon barrels to pump water out by closing off the outlet after the T piece and open the tap on the...

    Disguising a powerhead

I have a bright blue powerhead which sticks out like a saw thumb. Is there any paint that is aquarium safe, would ideally like to paint it black to match the backround. I cant really cover it in plants as the intake needs regular cleaning. Any ideas?

    Magnesium Nitrate PMDD question.

Just a quick question as something is puzzeling me. On James Planted tank PMDD (http://www.theplantedtank.co.uk/PMDD.htm), these are the quanities for making up the macro solution: 25g Potassium Nitrate 2.2g Potassium Phosphate (monobasic) 11g Potassium Sulphate 20g Magnesium Sulphate...

All in one dosing through IV bag

I have an idea of using an IV (drip) bag hung on the back of the aquarium. They normally have two ports, so will use one as an inlet for an airpump and the other as an outlet. By hanging the bag on the back of the aqauarium, the head wont be a problem. The only problem I have is where to find...

    Eden / Zoo-med Sweeping Powerhead

    Anti Hair Algae and mosses

You're right on both accounts. They sell mostly marine fish and they supply me with RO water. I'll start using tap water and dechlorinator...see how I get on. Will be much easier to do 50% water changes then. Although I have to ask, if my nitrites, ammonia and phosphates are in safe levels, is a...

    Anti Hair Algae and mosses

It was suggested to me by my lfs that I might want to start using ro water as then I would be starting off with pure water instead of trying to remove substances. The only sensitive inhabitants are the cherry shrimp. Think I should just go ahead and use tapwater?

    Anti Hair Algae and mosses

Thanks for the advice, I will be getting a drop checker next. I have turned two tubes off and will see how I get on. Tested for phosphates today and results are 0.25 or below. It will be impractical for me to do a 50% weekly water change as I buy my ro water and lugging 3 25L barrels around...

    Anti Hair Algae and mosses

Thanks for the replies people. I have a Hagen 160l tank. a Fluval 305 with spraybar and a 400l/h internal pump which I use as a reactor for my co2.I had no idea that 2bps would not be enough for my set up. I have mainly mosses, ferns and some gloso but not heavily planted. I am also dosing 10ml...

    Anti Hair Algae and mosses

I have 2 bps co2 input with plenty of circulation in the tank. Lighting is an Arcadia Luminair with 4 39w plantgro T5 tubes. Still I have hair algae growing on my Fissidens. Should I increase my co2? Need to get a co2 constant check bulb and check the ph. Test strip indicates ph of 7.2

    Cyanoacrylic (superglue) and plants

Thanks for the replies chaps. Have tried some on driftwood and would not recommend it. The glue turns white if it doesnt dry properly before you resubmerge it. Looks ugly.

    Cyanoacrylic (superglue) and plants

Using superglue to stick corals to rock fragments is common practise with marine aquarium keepers. Does anyone here use superglue for sicking plants to rocks or wood? Any opinions?

UV before or after canister filter?

Thanks for the reply Milla, my thinking was that the clarifier would make the algael spores stick together and so be easier for the filter floss to filter out? I might be mistaken but this forum seems to have a lack of enthusiasm for new members posts. Might just be the time of year. Thanks...

Welcome :) Tell us about yourself

Hi all, I live in Biggin Hill, Kent. I have been keeping fish (or is that fish keeping) for the last 10 years on and off. My two kids love watching the fish and how the plants grow under water. I have a 160L tank with an Arcadia Luminair above. I have been so amazed, as so many of us have, by...
