    I think you may be thinking of Vallis? Balansae can get large with Co2. It is easily kept shorter by cutting the larger ‘stems‘ at the base. It is not as invasive as Vallis. Had it in a 60-P before with CO2, no problem. Without CO2 it stays quite compact as a background plant 👍

    I think the bacteria that lives in the media is more resistant than people give them credit. Might be very different in a overly stocked cichlid tank though. I’d be wary about washing that media under the tap for that tank. In a lightly stocked heavily planted havent encountered any issues.

    A beautiful set up but @alto is right you need a LOT more plants. The soil should be covered in tiny plantlets. Plant mass is key to a successful stable scape. 👍 ps. When you add more (like yesterday) turn up the co2. It should be yellow in a brand new tank with no livestock.

    The more light you give the plants the more they will want to grow, increasing their demand for co2 - that you are not adding. All the extra light will do is show up deficiencies in the plant, leggy, pale, prone to algae and they’ll die. Hope that makes sense!
