It's been happening on and off for hours, though? Surely it shouldnt take that long? I guess I'm just frustrated. When I first started everything was going so well. As you can see from the early tank shot, the Alternanthera reineckii and Alternanthera reineckii mini have doubled in size...
Since I've put the regulator on a new bottle, I can't seem to keep a stable bubble count - I'll set it for what I want then half hour later its slowed by a considerable amount. Is there any way to remedy this?
Hi Clive,
Thankfully I've managed to refill my CO2 today after work... overpriced JBL nonsense. 20 quid for 500g refill! Trouble is I don't think my JBL reg will work with a FE so they've got me there. I have been spot dosing with excel, which seems to slowly be turning the dosed patches red...
So I have removed reflectors as Clive reccomended. Drop checker is now lime green at lights on (although I'm about to run out of co2 and won't be able to get any for a couple of days. That should be fun.
BBA has started to spread to some of the plants. I have started carpet bombing the most...
Thanks Clive. I have been using glutaraldehyde here and there at half doses. I am being cautious as I've heard mixed reports about it killing shrimp and I have amanos in the tank. I have noticed anecdotally that they are less active on days I dose, and tend to hide. However this may not have a...
Thanks Clive. I have removed the reflectors. I don't think the Juwel t5 lighting unit works with only one bulb. Regarding fertilisation, would you recommend going back to dosing 5ml of TNC Complete a day, or continue with 5ml every other day? Right now I don't have time to mix my own ferts. The...
Tank: Juwel Rio 125
Lighting: 2x 28 watt T5 Juwel HiLite tubes (one is "Day", the other is "Colour")
Fert Dosage: I was dosing 5ml of TNC Complete everyday, but since noticing algae I have reduced this to 5ml every other day.
Substrate: Tropica soil
CO2 injection: Yes
Filtration: Internal Juwel...
I already have an external filter, an eheim 2217 with a 2215 impeller (as the flow was too strong for the fish). I'm thinking of just leaving the internal filter in to create another direction of flow. My JBL regulator has got adjustable working pressure but doesn't like going over 2 BAR...
Low enough I could add it to an established tank with livestock?
I could, although I went to my LFS today and it looked like they had the bottom of the filter covered by substrate and everything looked fine, even without an external filter. As for removing my internal filter, I'm apprehensive...
This is a really good plan. However, I'd use either ADA Amazonia or Tropica soil. i've heard both of these can leech ammonia for a while... is this true? In which case, I'm screwed unless I sell these fish, although i reallyl like my angel so i'd prefer not to
Thanks for the advice. I'd say my last attempt at high tech was ruined mainly by low flow, which should be fixed with the external filter, and the JBL CO2 kit. A lot of diffusers need a pressure of around 3 bar, and the regulator doesn't like going above 2 bar at a maximum.
I've been thinking triangular aquascape, sloping from right to left. Trouble is I know Juwel internal filters suck water from both the top and bottom, and I'm not sure if putting substrate near the bottom of the filter will impede this. I like rock, but my water is already liquid rock and I'm...
I guess I'm just not happy with it. It might be looking at the same thing for three years, or comparing my tank to people on YouTube or on this forum. The flat substrate bothers me, and even hightech I never got a carpet going (although that may have been more to do with flow).
Ideally I'd want...
Tank: Juwel Rio 125 (3 years old)
Filtration: Internal Juwel 'Bioflow M' filter + external Eheim 2217 (with 2215 impeller to make flow manageable)
Substrate: Eco Complete (don't have a lot of luck with this stuff)
Lighting: Stock Juwel T5 lighting
CO2: None at the moment
Hey guys,
I've had...
Never mind I've got it working. Thanks so much, my bazooka diffuser is finally working! I've set it to 1.9 bar, any idea what these can actually run to though? I've heard they don't work above 2
Hey everyone,
I wondered if anyone knew how to adjust the working pressure for a JBL m001 regulator? The instructions say it is possible, but are very vauge on how to actually do it. At the moment it seems to only be operating at 1 bar which just isn't working too great.
Thanks
Do you mean the impeller bushes on either end of the impeller shaft? A quick note: ever since I added this external filter I can see my internal Juwel filter spitting out air bubbles pretty regularly - could this be something to do with the noise coming from the Ehem? Could they both be...
Thanks, I'll email them. They're the customer service for the UK aren't they? I've been holding off until now but I might aswell. I actually recorded how much sound the filter is making - it's 59 decibels. Is that typical? Am I overeacting?
Hi guys, this weekend I have a look at the O ring and maybe lubricate it, plus looks at the connections of the tubing (although they all seem fine). Honestly, it sounds like it could be the motor. Maybe I'll look into getting a replacement/refund... but it'll be a bit of a pain as I'll have to...
The impeller has the brushes on. In fact, I replaced them at the same time I replaced the impeller in hopes it'd help. No such luck. I really don't know where to go from here, maybe I'll just have to learn to live with it.
At this point, the rattling has started again even with the new impeller. It's frustrating to see how many people have silent ones lol. I bought it from amazon... not sure what there return policy is
Just using my phone lol... I'll do the bucket test tomorrow. Am I expecting it to be silent? Also how do I stop water from spraying everywhere from the outlet? haha. At least it sounds... better. I'll take any victory I can at the minute... was debating quitting the hobby this week because I've...
Ok guys, I was going to do the ol' filter head in a bucket trick but I'd received my new impeller and impeller shaft (although the new impeller has a dent in it towards the base...) I think it's slightly better? It's more of a steady hum now then a rattle. I don't know... I can still hear it...
Okay mate, will do. Thanks for your help, I'll have to do it tonight or tomorrow. If it's not the impeller or impeller shaft I'm at a loss for what the noise could be. I remember noticing the impeller shafts doesn't sit at a perfectly straight angle. I've removed it and put it back in but it...
I must have emptied, shook and re-primed it so many times now. I've also just left it for a while in hopes it would improve but no such luck.
I bought the Fluval in store and the Eheim online... just a shame as I'm not having much luck with these external filters haha
That impeller was actually from the Fluval 306 I had which had the same problem... :( Unfortunately the eheim has shown no signs of quietening down so I'm going to purchase a new impeller and impeller shaft on friday.
Nope, no air stone in the aquarium. The only thing could be my Juwel internal filter which is still running - but the outlet is pointing the opposite direction to the spray bar
It's still making the annoying noise... has anyone had this problem before? I bought one of these because I heard they were silent. I seem to be having the worst luck lately
I've rocked it back and forth a lot to no avail. I'll give it a few days, hopefully it'll quite down. I have 500g of Fluval bio media in there, is that enough for biological filtration? Should I buy the eheim stuff?
Okay, I think I'm cursed. Is set up my Eheim and it's making a very similar noise  Sounds like the impeller again. i hope it's air and while quiet down... it's definitely not silent.
I honestly don't think I could turn up the bubble rate anymore, it's basically a continuous stream in my bubble counter. Luckily I'm going to set up my bazooker co2 diffuser tomorrow so I should have much more efficient co2 diffusion.
My wallet hates me for it but I now have an Eheim on order for tommorrow. I guess once I get the 306 fixed I'll just sell it. The Eheim I've ordered only comes with mechanical filter sponges - would the Fluval biomax I bought to use with my 306 be okay as the biological filtration? The Eheim bio...
I'm taking it back to the store (again) tomorrow. I'll show them the video and I've also asked Fluval to email me back with permission directly from them to get a replacement unit. Kind of just wish I just got an Eheim 2217 now! These filters, when they're working, what's the noise level like...
To be fair even right now the impeller and shaft are greasy and lubricated. What I don't understand is why reducing the flow on the aqua stop valve makes it louder?
It does have rubber feet, but none of them are missing. It sounds like the noise is coming from the top of the filter.
To give everyone an idea of what I'm talking about, I took a video:
That's happening all day... and night :banghead:
Buying myself a bazooker diffuser. I have to turn off this god damn awful 306 and it's just too loud. I'm talking with Fluval but nothing they have suggested has helped. I don't know what to do.
Things just aren't going well for me right now in this hobby. Everything I do seems to make my...
Honestly want to put my head through a wall. It's gotten louder. Are Fluval meant to be good filters?
I will try your suggestion later today or tomorrow morning. I have no electrical outlet in my bathroom, can it be anywehre else?
Thank you for all of your help everyone - I really appreciate it. To my (inexperienced) ear it sounds like a mechanical problem with the impeller, but then again this is my first canister so I'm not experienced in this. I really don't want to sour my relationship with this store as they are one...
Thanks for your help. I've tried doing all of that, every time I shake the filter a lots of bubbles come out the output, but they continue to do so even after I've done it a few time...
I'm downstairs right now. I can hear it in my bedroom on the floor above. A loud hum and constant rattling...
Installed it, flow looks good. The 306 is so noisy it's driving my crazy though. Everyone says they're dead silent but doesn't sound like it to me... nothing seems to be going right for me with this hobby at the minute. The store wouldn't return it as they said nothing is wrong with it
For co2...
Okay this morning i took it apart and and put it back together, making sure everything was correct each step of the way. No dice. I took it back to the store, they examined it, and said nothing is wrong with it, so I can't return it. Am I going crazy here? When people say 'dead silent' do they...
Hi everyone,
I haven't used canister filters before... are they meant to be this noisy? I bought this for my rio 125 as I heard it was quiet (the tank is in my bedroom) but I can hear it from standing outside the door of my room! Honestly feel like I wasted £125 as I cannot sleep with this...
Ok guys, I've replaced the Juwel Nature bulb back to a Juwel Day. I've also purchased and installed a Fluval 306, which has a flow rate of 1150 litres/hour, just shy of the 10x water volume rule. Should this provide adequate flow? Or will I still need to get a powerhead?
Day two of increased lighting with reflectors and already there's a noticable increase in hair/black brush algae... I'm going to go mad, i just don't understand what's causing it... increased lighting? The new Juwel Nature bulb? It's honestly like I have to pick between unhealthy plants with...
Okay, thanks for your advice guys. I'm heavily considering getting an external filter to hit that 10x sweet spot. I've done a bit of looking around, and Eheim are just too expensive. Right now it's between the TetraTec EX1200 or the Fluval 406. Does anyone have experience with these, or possibly...
If I were going to add an Eheim external filter, could I set it up with the stock internal juwel filter still running? Then once the filter is seeded with nitryfying bacteria remove the internal in a couple of months?
Sorry, I know EI isn't somemagic formula, but now that I'm dosing to the levels of EI, then the plants should be growing better and thus inhibit algae growth that occured last time I added reflectors?
What I meant by this was that, now I am adding EI levels of ferts, the plants will hopefully be able to photosynthesize much more efficiently thus keeping the algae that arose last time at bay.
My tank is actually 125 litres (less so if you factor in the substrate and hardscape), so is my...
Thanks, good to be here! My lamps are only actually 28 watts each, but hopefully the reflectors will help. I've certanly noticed the leaves on my red plants are more vertical than they used to be since installing them . I definately agree with you on the filter, I've looked at the specs at it...
I've often considered moving the output of the filter, but then I'm scared of starving the fish of oxygen as there won't be much surface agitation. Did you knwo what type of circulation pump you used/where you positioned it?
I've had some advice from another website and people were telling me...
Hi everyone, I'm new here and I decided to create an account to ask for some advice on my plants, which just don't seem to be doing very well at all despite co2 injection and EI dosing.
Tank: Juwel Rio 125
Filter: Stock Juwel internal filter
Lighting: Stock 2x Juwel 'Day' t5's with a 6 hour...
Could a 2kg cylinder of co2 be potentially hazardous if it were to leak? I know carbon dioxide isn't anything like carbon monoxide, but I've you it can still kill in high enough doses. I'm worried about a leak occurring while I'm asleep.
In addition, what's a good way to fasten down a cylinder...
I'm scared to death of using a FE. I'd probably end up hurting myself or squirting liquid all over the walls
Also... is setting up a 2kg pressurised co2 system in my bedroom a good idea? if it were to leak in the night, could it harm/kill me?
I ordered a CO2 check valve which should hopefully be arriving tomorrow. However, it'll be positioned much higher up the tubing, out of the water, so I don't quite understand how it will stop the lower tubing from over flowing, nor the diffuser?
I guess so. It states it is a three-in-one diffuser/bubble counter/check valve... but clearly the check valve can't be working if water is going up the pipe?
Hi everyone,
I'm looking to purchase a 2kg co2 cylinder for my 125 litre Juwel Rio. This is mostly due to the fact that my Aqua One Nano co2 set is terrible - 95g doesn't last long and the diffuser and co2 tubing fill up with water overnight resulting in my having to take apart my kit every...
Hey everyone,
A couple of days ago I purchased an 'Aqua One Nano CO2 Set' for my 125 litre tank and I'm having some problems with it. It came with a 95g disposable co2 canister, mini regulator, co2 tubing, and an all-in-one check valve/bubble counter/diffuser. I'm finding that every day when...
