Cheers guys appreciate the kind comments
Guiller, if you're talking about mine, this is actually Christmas moss that I have. The original poster - Stryder used weeping moss.
I just spread the moss sparsely initially. I used the gel type superglue. Not too dense to allow ample flow...
Haven't been on here for a while guys so here's a few updated photos, tank is about 2 1/2 months old now. Everything is growing in nicely especially the HC Cuba which I was a little sceptical about at the start. I have to keep trimming it and it just keeps on growing and pearling. I did have a...
Hi guys,
I'm 3 weeks into my first high tech tank set up and have just started the EI method instead of liquid ferts and just wanted to know if it is detrimental to dose my macro ferts today straight after my water change as it is specified on the instructions?
I'm asking as I've seen...
I think it should be ok. As you can see my powerhead is situated relatively high up on the right so I think the shrimp will spend the majority of their time on the plants and decor. I was originally going to go with a larger filter to increase my turnover and flow rate. This would be better for...
Here's a few pictures from setup on 27/03/18 to today:
I have various stem plants behind the redmoor which are steadily growing each and hopefully should start to busy out a bit when I begin pruning etc.
Hi guys,
It's been almost 2 weeks now since I set up my first high tech tank in this same tank. I was speaking to Stryder a few weeks ago in this thread. Regarding the questions, I think I would have answered them exactly the same. I was looking at twinstar lights first of all and due to mine...
That's looking really well Stryder thanks for the photos they've given me a better understanding.
Can I ask which powerhead that is you are using? Is it a Koralia Nano 900? That was another thought, to run one alongside my canister and see how I go rather than just straight out buying a larger...
Sounds good mate I remember the initial setup of mine before I changed to my canister. I recall the pump being super powerful blowing at the glass and disturbing the substrate even when angling it up quite a bit haha. I am contemplating the idea of trying it again though if I can convince myself...
I'm not using it for anything. Purely just a free space to which I hide my pipes and equipment in at the minute. I only have one slot to put my outlet through from my canister or else I may have considered rigging both up together. A bit of diy would be needed for this as I have a glass cover on...
Hi mate,
I have the exact same tank and I'm currently running my low tech setup on an eheim Ecco pro 300. I've done away with the filter media in the back and just use my eheim.
Your tank is coming on really well I hope everything's still running smoothly. I'm hoping to upgrade mine to high...
As this is my first high energy setup I wanted to do everything as best as I could to give me the best chance of succeeding given I've not got the experience in this area. I've done endless amounts of research over the past few months and I keep seeing the 10x flow rule popping up everywhere so...
The tank has been running for almost 2 years on a low tech setup with my current canister filter. The back section of the aquarium which is seperated from the main bit by the black panel and which normally houses the filter media is completely empty. I literally just use this section to place...
That's good to hear. Based on your experience with it would you recommend it for my tank at just under half the size of yours considering the flow etc.? I don't want my planted tank turning into a reef tank that's all ha...
Is the flow rate easy enough to adjust/reduce if I require it?
Thank you. I think I'll leave my options open then and see how I get on. I'll try my eheim once it's fully cleaned out and stripped of some media and if I feel it isn't sufficient then I will upgrade. Does anybody have any suggestions of a good canister filter that would suit my tank?
I do not have any media whatsoever in the actual aquanano built-in filter if that's what you mean. I removed it all and now just have my eheim canister filter pipes in the back sections along with my heater and eheim surface skimmer :)
Yes, my flow has dropped substantially since initial setup which is understandable to a degree however, I would feel a bit more confident if the flow was at its optimum. I'll have a mess with it and see how it goes. Thanks Tim.
Thanks Tim, that's a good starting point. I can possibly start by decreasing the filter media in each tray then. I do understand that the flow is more important than the actual biological media present, providing all my plants are performing at the best they can. My scape will consist of redmoor...
Hi Guys,
I'm in the process of turning my aquanano 60 into my first high tech tank with pressurised CO2, a kessil A160we Tuna Sun, ADA Amazonia and fertiliser dosing. At present I have ditched the integrated filter of the aquanano and and am currently running an eheim Ecco pro 300 which I think...
Thanks mate, I might have to give that a go and see how I get on. I'll try and get hold of the most coarse mesh I can which is just small enough to not allow my smallest inhabitants through. Worse case if it doesn't work out at least I'll still have the extra flow in my tank and just cut my...
I know this question has already come up in the past but has anybody come up with a good fix to prevent small fish/shrimp being sucked into the overflow which does not...or at least minimally impairs the skimming function of the unit?

I think I may be underestimating the size of my tank with regards to stocking levels. It's. It the largest however the bioload will be relatively small due to the size of the fish and the fact I never overfeed.
Thanks for the input!

Sorry, that was meant...
Thank you mate. Yes you're right, a larger school of a single species tetra could work well. I really like the look of the ember tetras in here as they really complement the browns and greens of the wood, sand and plants along with my black background.
I may consider adding more anubias too...
Yeah sounds like a plan although I'm stuck for ideas as to what other small school to go for haha, I'll keep looking. I've only just recently added the crowntail so shall give it a couple of week or so to let things settle in again and see if anything springs to mind! Thanks for the reply mate...
Hi all,
First post on the forum so here goes.
I currently have a low tech planted Aqua One Aquanano 60 (100litres, 60cm wide) and was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on total fish stocking levels and also potential inhabitants?
The tank has been up and running around 3 months and...
