Running tanks in shed
Beware: Polystyrene & PVC cable coating react together, it takes a good while, years but worth remembering. Mice just love to burrow & nest in polystyrene. I know this from experience when I dismantled my old shed years ago.- KipperSarnie

Running tanks in shed
x2 but try to leave a gap between shed & insulation to allow an air flow. Space heating is by far the best to prevent condensation problems, you can always heat certain tanks as required with aquarium heaters.- KipperSarnie

Heron proofing pond
A heron proof pond, many took a look but due to the wall & rocks they had to stand at least 6 inches above the water. The net is to prevent any mishaps from fish jumping.- KipperSarnie

I only used a roof tent once, the trouble is it slows you down in the mornings, you have to stow it before heading out. The good thing about bush camping is you hear the nights action & can head out in the right direction if your not in a National Park there are no rules so you can head out well...- KipperSarnie

Our first solo trip my wife & I would be in the tent as soon as it got dark. as we became more experienced we would sit by the fire lamping the bushes for watching eyes! That was fine because you could see... But once in the tent no visual but listening to the animals inspecting your Land Rover...- KipperSarnie

My plants aren't growing :(
What is your water temperature? As you have "Cold-water" fish is the water too cold for "Tropical" plants to flourish? Also I'm not sure about aquatic plants but in general plants like to feel stable so they put out roots before growing.- KipperSarnie

I think it depends on your location. When living in Lancashire tap water was king! Now living in Kent tap water goes nowhere near my tanks untill it has been through RO or HMA filtration.- KipperSarnie

Got my new (to me) filter, do I need to buy smaller spray bars?
Just remember it is easier to make the spray bar holes bigger than it is to make them smaller! so start small if making your own.:)- KipperSarnie

What flow rate for trickle filter?
A pump size is given in the eBay listing! Keep in mind you the higher the pump has to lift to the lower the flow. You also need a pump powerful enough to fill the spray bar pipe with water otherwise the chambers furthest from the inlet will not receive sufficient water to supply a biological...- KipperSarnie

Back in the day.......
When I first entered fish keeping back in the late 60's when only spiders used the web & an I-Book was a diaryI Cork Bark was in every planted tank. OK so it released a lot of tannings & even weighted down it would easily launch like a missile from a sub but it looked fantastic if you got it...- KipperSarnie

Filter media order - is the typical order wrong?
I also have the floss before the biological media & after the course foam to prevent clogging up the bio media. I don't think I need to clean my filters more often & so far I definitely have not had to clean my media.- KipperSarnie

A Koi colour & pattern continue to change so a beautiful yearling Tancho Kohaku could end up a poor Taisho Sanke or that beautiful Taisho Sanke could end up a Kohaku with black spots or just a Kohaku with little pattern. To vacuum or not to vacuum....that is the question.
I have a small pump that I use, not to syphon but to blow any detritus out of the plants & crannies while I'm water changing. The pump sits in the tank the delivery hose is fitted with a plastic pipe with a fantail end fashioned into it with a hot air gun so I can direct the flow & crap towards...- KipperSarnie

What do you do with scrap acrylic?
As Marcel shows, there is no such thing as scrap acrylic! Super glue is not as clean looking as a solvent weld. Damsel Fly or Dragon Fly Nymph both are predators & will take small fish. They ambush & do not need to devour the fish as they inject enzymes into their prey which turns the prey into a "Soup" which they then suck back for nourishment. this way they can take a fish larger then theirselves...- KipperSarnie

Any way to fix a seized pump impeller
If all fails you could drill out the centre of the impeller, might need masonry drills, get bigger each time & it should then come out. A new impeller is cheaper than replacing the lot!- KipperSarnie

I've been feeding a 'lucky dip' of pond insects to my tanks
Decant into buckets a couple of times with tank water, let it settle then net again into another bucket of tank water. Reliable Sawing at B&Q / Wickes
An alternative is to invest in a battery operated circular saw & cut to size in the car park. I have a 18v Milwaukee & would recommend it to everyone. I also take a couple of guides & clamps measure the diagonals & all is fine...... I mean who am I going to bitch to if it's wrong?- KipperSarnie
