    Sparkling Gourami Vs Cherry Shrimp

The girls are pretty peaceful but can be feisty occasionally. The males are regularly displaying to each other and chasing other males. Each male claims a spot amongst dense plant cover. They usually partner closely with one female and share cover with them. Now and then they come out to...

Nice podcast guys. Thumbs up from me. I drive a lot for work and spent hours listening to them. Excellent production quality. Shawn is a great expert commentator and has a straight forward way of covering sometimes complex topics. J is great at asking the key questions hobbyists want to...

    Hello from Doncaster

Welcome Planted tanks are cheaper than reefs. You can get pro level gear for a small cost compared to reef stuff. You'll love it.

    Sparkling Gourami Vs Cherry Shrimp

As above, these guys demolished my shrimp population in no time, including shrimp that were as big as the gourami. They started off with juvies and ate all of those, then moved on to bigger shrimp. Really pretty fish. Very intelligent. A real joy to watch them peeking into nooks and crannys...

    Really fast bubble count!

Thanks for explaining ian_m I use an API KH test kit, less than 6 months old. I use an ebay pH pen that is regularly calibrated. Not lab grade equipment by any means. Acids present may be some leaching from driftwood and ADA Amazonia. Soil is approx 1.5 years old, driftwood has been in there...

    Really fast bubble count!

What's wrong with running in the yellow if your fish don't care? To hell with drop checkers. They are a very general guide and are always 1-2 hours behind the actual value. I've had more success using pH drop and my eyeballs. I up CO2 until the very early signs of fish distress, then back...

Fish likely die from brown blood disease, nitrite poisoning. Zero nitrates? Something wrong there, nitrate is the final step in nitrogen cycle.

    some concerns with small cylinder

All aquarium plants are shade plants. Direct sunlight for extended periods can harm them, regardless of temperature. I live in a very hot country and we must use shade cloth material to cover windows in Summer if aquarium nearby. If you have air conditioning don't worry about the heat...

    Really fast bubble count!

Diffuser is an inefficient method of adding CO2 for such large tank. I wouldn't be surprised if you need 10 BPS or more. A CO2 reactor may be necessary if you want to make the bottle last longer, much more efficient method. .

How/Where did you hear about Ukaps.org?????

I had a vision. Jesus was there. He said "sign up to UKAPS and I will turn all of your water into wine." I thought "that'd be great, I love being drunk!" so signed up here and all water is now wine. Now I realise that I can't keep fish and plants in wine so I'm hoping people here can help me...

    Flow, Co2 and lighting timings

BBA is one of the general exceptions to the flow rule. In nature it is most commonly found in fast moving water. Most other algae are inhibited by ensuring adequate flow.

    Bigger fish to force schooling

Shock horror: Pro aquascapers scare their fish to force schooling before a photo. Cruelty to animals or necessary evil to win an aquascaping competition? I think fish in nature may exibit this schooling behaviour several times daily, when bigger fish move by. In our tanks (predominantly well...

    How would you improve it...

I think it looks good. Very healthy. I'd clean up the lines on the LHS stauro. Take those 2 stems of stauro (near centre) back away from the glass and give the HC some more room. This could be too clean for you, might just be my personal taste.

    Can I mix

I really appreciate Straight Shooter and Darrel's comments. Helps me learn much. Why is phosphate so dangerous in the environment at elevated level? What damage does it do?
