Its a bit misleading to say there is no valve on Sodastream bottles but there is a device built in to the bottle that closes off the CO2 when you remove it from the Sodastream machine or whatever adaptor/ device you fit it to. its the same method that bottles of other gases such as butane for...
Do a search on Google for Fire Appliance suppliers ...there are bound to be some given the size of Mancs .Businesses must get FEs replenished .
As for the fittings all FEs in the UK have the same fitting so if the ones you have been using fit then a new one will fit ..Nothing to worry about there .
The plastic is there to protect the needle and the disc displaying the readings. You will,of course, need to be extra careful when carrying it or stowing it away.
If you are handy you could make up a cover from a piece of thin clear plastic and glue it on .
This is a mainly UK site and this device appears to originate from a non uk Amazon site. changing o rings is hardly an onerous task.So where does it fit and what thread is that
Im always bemused by folk having problems getting and refilling fire extinguishers.unless you live in the back of beyond I would have thought that most town and cities would have at least one supplier of fire prevention equipment. ....as all businesses and many homes will have extinguishers so...
But does it seperate? does the part on
the left not remain attached to the circled part?.... show us a pic of what it is you have bought as a replacement to compare
I see from Google it is a small disposable cylinder...would you not be better using a Fire Extinguisher which should be cheap and last longer and the regulator will fit it.
I didnt query what was wrong with Fire Extinguishers . I asked about OP putting this
"For some reason I don't like the idea of the fire extinguisher,,,,,,,,, my wife will moan about why I'm trying to put a fire out in the fish tank"
Why would you need to do that ....Most homes have a gas supply running through the house and electricity as well......and you dont specifiy that .
Do you have a link for London Gases as others might be interested .
As lazybones said you get a cylinder on a contract and pay each time you swap an empty for a full cylinder. You would probably be better off economically using a fire extinguisher ...theres plenty info in here about how to do this although its quite straightforward
Well it is clearly a bottle used in a pub or restaurant and presumably remains the property of B.O.C. and will have been filled with food grade CO2 which I presume is what Sodastream use and those bottles are used for aquariums.
The obvious place to get it filled will be B.O.C. Dunno whether...
I dont think what you are pointing out has any relevance . It apears those nuts are holding in other parts . Its the wheel valve on top of the cylinder that controls the flow of gas to the reg and similarly the valves on the reg to the tank. Are you sure you are using the correct washer cos...
I take it this is not a normal cylinder like a fire extinguisher as Ive never seen a cylinder with a gauge on it. Can you post pics of the differences you mention so we can see.... also who supplied the cylinder and reg'r
But thats a FE ...doesn't have a wheel valve . Fire Extinguisher places might be able to suply a FE with a wheel valve fitted. I bought this one on Ebay a while back but it came from Poland.
Usually when you order something and it doesn't arrive you contact the supplier to see what the problem is . Have you done this . There might well be a reasonable explanation for the delay .
Are you sure its metal and are you sure its glued on. Every tank I have owned has had such a trim incl my present Clearseal tanks but made of plastic and none were glued on. I think they are just for cosmetic purposes but also hide the water level.
I'm guessing this isn't a fire extinguisher but for them to say you have to buy another cylinder sounds like nonsense unless the one he has is out of date . Think how large a city Newcastle is ...a huge number of businesses ,shops etc and all with Fire Safety equipment which needs to be...
If you were to get a short piece of tubing that DOES fit over the stubs of this Bubble Counter would your existing tubing fit INSIDE this short piece ?
I was also going to suggest a syringe . They are cheap enough ...Try your local pharmacy and check the amount graduations ...Ask for a childs syringe .
Dunno where I found the info but the three models and what size hose they need is shown in my previous post and I suggested it is likely to be 16/22 . As you say its the ID thats more important
Googling says that the diffusers accept three different hose sizes 12/16, 16/22 and 29/25 . You say your hoses are 20 mm OD...I think it will actually be 22 and the ID will likely be 16 ... so the matching size diffuser is what you want. If its the normal fitting you remove the cap and slide...
What glassware are you talking about . Bubble Counter ....Inlet pipe...outlet pipe ? The small diameter tubing for the CO2 will just be the usual CO2 resistant stuff and the bigger stuff 12/16 or 16/22 will just be the usual filter hose . If you have trouble fitting it just use hot water ( as...
I find that odd...perhaps these places are too "upmarket " or are just trying to make more money . There is absolutely no reason why an "in date" FE should not be refilled . I have a place near me in Glasgow that sells all types of extinguishers and last time I went in with a CO2 FE that was "in...
I wasn't sure if you were speaking about the bottles of ready made up solution or bottles of just the Bromothymol Blue which you add in to 4DKH
I had a bottle of the made up solution but it was years old so I looked on Ebay and all I could see were bottles of the reagent alone or sales of a...
I had an Argoshield cylinder for welding and used a twin guage regulator with it and it had the same collar so the guages shouldnt be a problem but looks like the solenoid might get in the way.
anything here suit?

Just search on Google or look in Yellow pages who have them listed under “ Fire Extinguishing Equipment” Place near me you take the empty FE and they refill it - only takes a few minutes.
As far as refilling an extinguisher is concerned I dont understand why this should be a problem. Every business in the land and many homes have FEs . Assuming the FE is " in date" - there should be a label affixed to it- you take it to Fire Safety place and get it refilled.
I just dont see the problem...there are loads of regs about with Din fittings.. To me an adaptor means more threads and possibility of more leaks....look harder and avoid adaptors You tried Ebay for a reg...
You said in your first post you wanted to uy a reg to fit to a UK Fire Extinguisher but that link is for an adaptor.. youd be better buying a reg with a Din fitting so no need for an adaptor. was it on Amazon. co. uk or . com you saw the reg. CO2 supermarket sell regs
Just had a look at their website and see the message saying to contact them using the sales confirmation e-mail . Surely they must appreciate that a message like that sends the heebie jeebies up customers ..if it is nothing to concern customers then they should say so otherwise folk will think...
I know a 2KG is fairly heavy so can't imagine what that one is like .Just remember to secure it to a wall . This fear that folk regularly express about having FEs in the house is unnecessary .. FE's are in every workplace and should be in every home..They're not bombs
Yeah the gas goes in to the atomiser from the regulator but it leaves the atomiser in to the same tube the water travels and both then end up in the tank.
As for the timers this might help>>>>
http://www.aquariumgardens.co.uk/blog/2015/04/18/when-to-turn-on-your-aquarium-co2/
Use two pugin timers one for the CO2 and the other for the lights.
As for the atomiser I havent got mine running st present but iirc dont the water and the CO2 end ip in the same outlet pipe that empties in to the tank?
Get yourself a Fire Extinguisher from a local Fire Safety place that supplies and refills extinguishers .
Alternatively there is always Ebay which will need refilled locally when it eventually is empty...
Just to clarify ..How long does the Sodastream bottle last at 2BPS . As others have said if it's a normal regulator just remove the Sodastream adaptor and that should fit a Fire Extinguisher with the horn removed . There are plenty articles around explaining how to attach the regulator to the FE.
Are you sure it was the full cylinder contents that got dumped and not just some when it was almost empty . If you are going to buy new kit get one that will fit a fire extinguisher ...cheaper to buy ,holds more and easy to refill.
If you mean how to physically set the times your CO2 comes on and off you need a Timer Switch that you can buy on Ebay ...You set the times on it,plug it in to a socket and plug the Solenoid in to the socket the Timer Switch has on the front .
Youve been asked twice why you want to remove the gauges without explaining why but now you say you want to swap out the gauges for another pair... can you explain why you want to do that.
This is like drawing teeth.
Dont look for one that accepts the flat/ round connector.. I doubt you'll find one.. the voltage reducer you get will have an "out" flex so cut off the flat/round connector and join the two flexes ( checking the polarity again) using an inline switch or crimps and shrink tubing or a choc block...
So what you are looking for is a 230v power supply with an output same as marked on the one you have .
Have you tried Ebay or Maplins or RS Components .Loads of things use low voltage power supplies so I'd have thought there shouldn't be much trouble locating one neater than the one in your...
There was/is nothing hostile about what I wrote. I read the article this morning and if Jeremy Gay is so clever then it doesn't show in what he did. Ive seen a few articles over the piece about using FE's for aquariums and it drives me mad when they talk about them as if you were handling a...
I'm sure someone else had the same problem a couple of weeks ago and one bit of advice given was to replace the water in the bubble counter with oil... I cant remember what sort of oil was suggested though!!!
"An OLD Bottle" ..well there is the answer ... along with what I said earlier and getting it checked as required and replaced at 10 years not annually although to avoid the business being without some or all of their extinguishers it might be convenient to get them swapped out to allow the...
April PFK 2017... Is it out yet given this is only 11th Feb?
The answer is quite simple.. buy a FE new or reconditioned from a reputable supplier and it will have a label showing refill and test dates.
I havent read the article but I hope it isn't yet another that goes overboard about the...
Obviously you dont operate the FE levers until you have the regulator attached.. you must not "fire" the extinguisher once the horn is removed I think you are overworrying about things.... why should you hurt yourself etc but perhaps you should find some other means of using CO2 if you really...
I think you'll find CO2 FEs DO have a dip tube . To clarify the Screw Down valve is the device in the picture on top of the extinguisher ... with the black knob you screw up and down to allow the CO2 through to the regulator. This new picture is what I mean
This is what a " screw down valve" looks like.( Im sure thats not the proper name for these valves) Its same as is used on other gas cylinders . Ive been trying to locate one to fit on a FE without success so far.
Have you considered using a FE as so many aquarists do.. it just means taping...
I have just looked at the website of both CO2ART and CO2SUPERMARKET and both suggest that the regulators can be adjusted to 5 Bar although in the remarks for the CO2ART ones two of the three mention adjusting the flow pressure and the other one doesn't but doesn't say you cannot . I don't know...
£20 for a refill...Thats a bit steep.... Place in Glasgow where I bought a 2KG FE 9 years ago will refill it for £5 which will give me a further year or swap it for a new 10 Year one for £25
M+S in Glasgow who I spoke to today quoted £5 for a refill of a 2KG CO2 extinguisher or £25 for an exchange . I didn't ask about refilling any other CO2 bottles like PaintBall bottles but I will when I go to get my extinguisher replaced .
