I've thought often about getting this tank, and if i did, i'd use a chihiros A2 series, excellent colour rendition, and programmable. Chihiros B series also a good option imo.

There's spaghnum for sure, but the other one i think is just plain java, not entirely sure

I have ADA pinsettes, they are very good. You don't need them, but they feel really nice to use and they do easily come out of the substrate without pulling plants back out.

can't speak for this system, but i used an ATO on my saltwater tank and it worked great, the model i had was the D-D H2Ocean i believe. Really good for maintaining exact water level

what frogs are you thinking of? :) Also what's your substrate consisting of on each level? May or may not want to consider the nepenthes in with frogs, I can't speak from experience but just in case you hadn't checked already

Just to update on the No Planaria, no issues following the 3 day course of treatment, on either the shrimp or the plants.

As other poster said, dosing is key, but also looking at the rock you're using, it may be struggling to get a proper grip on it. I had best success with porous rock like lava etc, but perhaps someone else that has used (what looks like sieryu?) may chime in

Since coming back from abroad, was about time I updated this journal with the newest iteration of this tank!

Haven't updated this in a while! Next milestone is frog calling, which I estimate may happen around April earliest. No plans to breed since the frogs are from the same parents, but may consider options from different bloodlines, we will see.

you can't avoid what comes out of the tap unfortunately. If this was a recurring problem, you'd perhaps want to invest in an RO system or buy RO from LFS, then remineralise to what your livestock require

South American species, such as cichlids will absolutely decimate shrimp, as will most bigger fish than the ones listed above. If you aren't worried about keeping a breeding population of shrimp, you could go for mid-sized tetras etc depending on tank size, these will eat shrimplets, but...

Really nice proportions in this aquascape, I also do the 24/7 co2 at a lower rate, I think it works well (though my tanks do not look as nice as yours haha)

The difficulty is, it's taken since November for this tank to bed in properly, would be too much hassle to switch over unless it was for a much bigger size. Plus the frogs would get disrupted, when they've also settled into this set-up. Exo-Terra?

Yeah great, drops to high 60's at night, and holds at about 73f during the day. Ah cool, I really wish I'd went for those dimensions in hindsight! When does it arrive, gonna start a journal?

More wood added for vertical climbing space, quite happy with how it's going, the plants are well bedded in, which has really helped maintain the humidity.

The honest answer is there is nothing good for aquascaping up here, yet. When you visit Horizon Aquatics, you realise the sheer gulf between the shops, ours are still for fishkeeping, as opposed to aquascaping imo

It's to help the frogs regulate more than anything else, think the earliest I'll see breeding behaviour is probs another 2-3 months yet! Will likely wait until I start hearing calls etc then consider next moves :)

Frog watch. I think the terrarium could look better tbh, but functionally it's doing the job so far. Interestingly I've added some aquatic plants like hydrocotyle, crypts and pogostemon, which are doing well. Not the best for supporting the weight of a frog but good for filling in the gaps.

Where did you read this about the increased hardness of the exoskeleton and difficulty moulting? First I've heard of it, not disputing, but would be keen to learn more

Personally i've noticed a good difference between shrimp tanks where i don't supplement feeding, compared to those that receive a varied diet (which makes sense), especially with calcium supplements for shell development and even protein

I think people find it not very powerful in terms of flow, but that is purely down to the tank it's matched with; 35l would be ideal

Silent, easy to clean, really nice lily pipe, shrimp safe sponge. Ideal if you match it suitably sized tank

Have you seen it for sale in the UK? I can only speak from experience of the regular, less flow model so feel free to disregard this; but if the newer model is based on the same design it should be really good.

Chihiros B series is adjustable both in length and intensity I think, it's for lower budget too. Or any of the higher spec chihiros as well, can't really go wrong.

this is partly why i got rid of it, the slight hang was frustrating, despite it being a great light. I've seen some people position it in the middle of the tank, in something of a z shape which tends to help slightly

Getting bigger! Quite noticeable in terms of their general shape, especially the upper back and rear legs

don't see why you couldn't do it, you may want to consider small soil dividers, which you could make DIY from thin plastic etc, to combat as much mixing over time

This was the tank i grew it low tech, pic about halfway through below.

for me in low tech, it wasn't often, even with diy co2 like yeast, you would likely see a night and day difference in how often you'd need to trim.

I have soft water as i'm in Scotland, i did a 50% water change each week, used TNC ferts at the time, and it was a cherry shrimp/betta tank. The growth low tech was a lot slower than high tech, but it rooted in over time, there is a pic of here on it somewhere, i'll try to find it

When I grew it low tech, I used a 12hr light period (to be honest I use that light period whether low or high tech), and light rating was probably low/medium, definitely not high.

Monte Carlo does ok in non co2 tanks, yes it will need trimmed, but it grows in very densely

They'll probably be fine if it isn't for a long time, or better if you have some sort of turnover in the water in my opinion. The really annoying thing though is trying to remove shrimp once you start ripping stuff out, as it will be nigh on impossible. Would definitely recommend catching...

I've used it recently, it's great. Ideal as an underlayer, I even just used it on its own and the plants established quickly. It's basically pea sized lava rocks, not soil as the title may suggest
