Not particularly inspiring! He should have stopped waaaay before the nut got that damaged!
I took your collective advice: sprayed the area with wd40, left it for a few hours then used 2 locking pliers and it unscrewed easily. 4 or 5 turns of teflon tape, all screwed back together and it seems...
Yes that's what I'm a little concerned about doing... breaking something! Will try wd40 and see how it goes. If I end up breaking it, will I need to buy a whole new needle valve or do you know if the nut comes separately?
Hi there I wonder if any one can help me out with sorting this issue:
I recently setup a FE co2 system with a dual stage co2 art reg and solenoid + needle valve that I bought from a fellow UKAPS member. It took me a few years to finally get round to setting up a co2 enriched tank and...
I have just bought me one of these dimmers - just wondering if those of you who have been using it with success (@Planty ) have also been using a transformer on the Aquasky or if you just have it plugged straight into the socket?
Sorry for not seeing your question earlier [emoji54]
The tape comes off just fine and I reckon that any residue could be wiped off with a bit of white spirit.
Good to know that the dimmer is working for you, how long have you had it running with your Moonlight?
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003...
Hi Andrew, I never did get the dimmer, I just put some insulation tape over a third of the lights - not stylish, but cheaper than a dimmer switch!

Thanks[emoji4]
I added another 6 CPDs today, making a total of 12...dang those multi-buy offers in the LFS! Why can't they offer UNeven numbers of fish?
Will let these little guys settle in and then decide on the next additions. Major dispute in the homestead about what to get next. I want...
Thanks for you replies!
Hey Alto, thanks for the advice. I think I will start by adding a few more CPDs (to achieve that magic odd number) and bolster the group before I add something else. In the mean time I'll have a think about what else (if anything) to add. I adore the little Corys but...
Thanks for the reply. Definitely something to think about, I don't want to put aesthetics before fish happiness! Otos could be a good idea. How do reckon pygmy corys would get on?

I'd like some ideas on how to stock this tank...
https://www.ukaps.org/forum/index.php?threads/48897/
I currently have 6 CPDs and few amanos and cherry shrimp in there. Up until last weekend I also had 3 Sparkling Gouramis but unfortunately they didn't last - one jumped out and the remaining...
[emoji4] What I meant to say was are you happy with the Tetra ferts? Your plants seem to be doing really well.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
Are you looking for polished or unpolished? The latter are hard to come by or at least they were a few years back when I needed them in bulk for a gardening project! Polished pebbles seem to be available but in 20kg bags like...
Love this tank, stunning scape and lots of interesting inhabitants. Do you still have the Corydoras? And how are you finding the light - still just using one light for 6 hrs a day?

Thanks Tim, owe you some credit as it was one of your tanks which gave me the idea for something a bit easier to maintain [emoji4]

Hey Roy, sorry I didn't see your comment until now! I had to dismantle this when I moved house but have now started up another low-tech using some of the original plants but in a different tank. New journal here https://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/scapers-50l-slow-burner.48897/
Thanks for...
Hi there,
I had to dismantle my other low-tech tank (40cm cube) when I moved house and decided to setup something new with bits collected from the Lakes in this Scapers tank instead. I found the dimensions so, so much easier to work with! The old tank was my first planted tank and a very steep...
Straight away, the sooner you get it running the sooner it will start to 'mature' and help out with the large amounts of ammonia released by the substrate. Don't forget - lots of water changes for the first few weeks [emoji3]
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
How are you finding the Sparkling Gouramis? How many do you have? I got 3 a week ago and they are very naughty [emoji50]...chasing the Celestial Danios and I haven't seen many Cherry shrimp since I added them...
Very interesting to watch though!

Plants, can I ask what adaptor you are using with your lights? Just a normal one or the step down transformer kind?
Thanks[emoji4]

I had response from Lite House and they can't officially recommend their dimmer but they said people were using it on the Aquasky and referred me to this thread! So I will have a think...
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
They come from www.lite-house.co.uk
I spoke to the owner yesterday and have emailed the light specs for him to take a look at and advise the best dimmer switch for the job. I will post here when I hear back if that helps?

I think I'll be getting that dimmer too then! At full strength I think it might be a bit too much for a beginner- which I most definitely am [emoji16]
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
Thanks to both of you for your prompt replies! I'll go with the standard adaptors. Did either of you ever add a dimmer?
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
Hi Andy, just wondering how things went after you moved to a standard adapter? I have acquired a secondhand Aquasky 602 with 2 of the Maplin transformers. They get really hot and hum a bit so I'm wondering if I can go without?
Thanks

Liquid CO2 won't do any harm - in fact you can dose it directly onto the affected areas with a syringe - but don't apply more than 2 x the recommended dose!
Here are a few useful links on algae with sections on cyanobacteria:
http://www.theplantedtank.co.uk/algae.htm...
It looks like cyanobacteria. I had some on the front glass of my tank along the substrate line. The tank got quite a bit of sunlight, I think that's what brought it on, is yours near any windows? I wiped/siphoned it out as often as it reappeared and also covered the lower section of the glass...
Hey Andy, how are these tanks going? And how are the filters working out for you? I am planning on using the Scapers Flow filter but not sure if it will provide high enough flow. Wondering how your Fluval filters are keeping up?
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
Loving your shrimp enthusiasm Roy! They are so much fun to watch, and just you wait til they have babies...[emoji16]
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
What is your dosing schedule for this super scape? I think you said half dose of EI, do you do this daily or only when doing water changes? Thanks
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
Fantastic Roy! I really love this scape [emoji1] What is your dosing regime? Are you dosing liquid carbon too?
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
Really coming together nicely! Have you started with ferts yet? I was also wondering why the water level is where it is i.e. it looks like it's a couple of inches below the rim?[emoji16]
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
Yes, please can we have more details on the light stand? And how have you suspended the lamp? Fishing line? Or with http://www.qvsdirect.com/single-lighting-suspension-wire-kit-pack-of-2
Great looking tank btw [emoji3]

I used this and am really happy with it, looks smart, nice finish when cut and has a good 'spring' to it https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B001N0X4B8/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Does that mean you went with the sodastream setup in the end, how are you finding it
? How tall are the canister and regulator together, I am thinking of using this system too but also have limited space...
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
Fantastic shape, I've given you my vote if that helps [emoji106] what have you planted in the sand in the foreground?
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
Wow Thierry, this tank is looking amazing, you have made something really special!
Can I ask you some questions?
- How did you build the hardscape up? Did you just stack the stones on top of each other or did you have to glue them? Same with the wood?
- And how did you get the moss to grow on...
Nice touch - the way you've planted that Crypt out in the middle of the carpet in the shade of the driftwood branch [emoji106]
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
Looks great! What substrate are you using, just sand? And what is holding that slope up, just the rocks? Looks like it will be a dream to maintain [emoji56]
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
Amano's have got great personalities, they definitely deserve some time in a Thug Life video... perhaps not as important criteria as their algae eating skills [emoji3]

Thanks for replying, I tried some Savinia in the beginning but it melted away - I think the fact that I have a glass top didn't agree with it or too much flow? Maybe will have more luck with another type of floating plant.
I know, I feel guilty about it  I got just the one to begin with and wanted to get more but then discovered we'd be moving (next month) so thought I'd wait til after the move which I expect will be quite traumatic for all the inhabitants :dead:
Do you mean I should take the 3 x a...
@PARAGUAY @alkm Thanks for your replies.
It's situations like these that really show me how much of a novice I am... I'm not sure what to adjust first - I worry that I will end up making everything worse because I don't understand what I'm doing wrong in the first place! I am especially...
Hi all,
I'm starting to see some signs of some kind of deficiency in my tank. The tank has been going for 3 months now. In the last month or so I've noticed the Eleocharis acicularis start to yellow, brown patches on the leaves of Staurogyne rubescens and Hydrocotyle tripartia and the...
I'm new to this too and initially found it all very overwhelming - even with a small, low-ish (liquid carbon) tech tank. There's a lot of info out there, lots of it helpful but sometimes it can become confusing, you get to the point where you end up with more questions than answers, the answers...
Woooow...This journal... I think Homer missed an opportunity: synopsis - Odysseus decides to stay at home and put together a planted tank instead of going off to fight in Troy, an epic tale for the UKAPS member who has a few spare hours on a Saturday afternoon. George, maybe you should rename...
