What is everyone using to black out the back ground?

Be prepared for some mess - lay the tank on the opposite side to the one you want to apply the vinyl to (very carefully) then absolutely soak the glass with water, preferebly sprayed, some say add some fairy liquid but I never had the need. If you've been struggling then I'd suggest getting two...

45P very low tech setup/planting suggestions

Gravel doesn't give you that is the problem and very keen not to use an soil type substrate - root tabs would be the only option but wouldn't make gravel rich. Crypts alone with a small HOB filter don't give you a balanced system to my knowledge is the worry, floating plants are a no because of...

45P very low tech setup/planting suggestions

I wouldn't dream of or recommend intentionally overdosing liquid carbon, especially with livestock in. I think if you were to have a chat with someone like Aquarium Gardens they would tell you that liquid carbon + vallisneria don't get on the best.

Thanks for the very kind offer John, I'm assuming the Vallisneria spiralis tiger reacts the same way to liquid carbon as the other Vallisneria and would like to leave that as an option. I found that Cryptocoryne Crispatula (including Var. Balansae) gives a similar effect. If you'd seen my mum...

    Best ATO?

Are you trying to use it in a display or sump? How far down from the rim do you have your water level. With the Auto Aqua unit you can gently bend the cable straight out of the top of the sensor and achieve a 10mm rim to waterline. I would look at getting some rare earth neodymium magnets to...

@Epiphyte - that's an ADA cabinet? I never knew they looked of such an awful build quality, I could be wrong as this opinion is only from a few photos and is mainly surrounding the base intersection with the uprights. Where you have the feet sat are not in their optimal position to carry the...

Flat bottomed stand - adding feet?

Did you mean to say this close? (300mm) A typical UK build would usually be either 450mm or 600mm centres, older buildings are a different game altogether so could be anything but even if they were 1' / 300mm apart then the strength would still depend on the structure as a whole and where those...

I think the whole idea behind glassware is to use a clear hose for the aesthetics as I said before, the glass gets dirty also. Clear tubing

I will also add in that when I mentioned Platinum cured Silicone that even when using 12/16 or 16/22 the walls will kink easier than PVC due simply due to the material. A majority of systems call for 12/16mm or 16/22mm tubing. Just to explain in 12/16mm the internal diameter is 12mm and the...
