In two minds about which set up to use as a Crystal Red Shrimp tank, I have an established Mr Aqua 12g Long tank set up and running which I have given to my old girl for her Betta which is decked out with Anubias nana on driftwood with a little Moss here and there, but also have a Aqua One Betta...

Hi, welcome to UKAPS, Australian here, one thing I can tell you is with an Iwagumi and Dry Start Method (DSM) is that you need patience, lots of patience, I tried a Iwagumi 12 months or so ago and didn't have the patience for it, have some what more now, but still not prepared to venture down...

Just an update on the tank, haven't done anything to it at all, haven't even trimmed it yet, just been adding liquid CO2 each day, liquid ferts each Sunday, water changes each Sunday with mineral powder mixed in, Shrimp are fed every second day, light period is now 5 hours each day seeing I'm at...

Got a nice piece of driftwood, I like the first and second pics, use an ADA Amazonia substrate perhaps, or Fluval Shrimp Stratum, plant some Glosso, HC, Hydrocotyle, small leaved stem plants, perhaps some small Anubias as well, would look good I think.

I actually think this has potential as an Australian biotope, with Australian plant life here and there and Australian native shrimp.

Excellent work, done well, love the look of planted cubes.

Don't rely on strip test readings, I feel and have read that they aren't always correct, should grab a test kit mate.

Nothing wrong with the selection of plants I don't think, I'm not real educated with these mind you, but what you have selected would really suit the lay out, done well, are you going to run CO2? Might be worth seriously looking into to get the best out of this tank with those plants, also...

I think some easy care plants like 'Monte Carlo' and Hygro 'japan' would be really nice in this set up, again great work with the arrangement of stones, wouldn't change it.

I'd really like to see this kept as is in regards to the positioning of the rock, add 1 substrate, plant 'Monte Carlo', would look great once all filled in and looking lush and green, add some shrimp, done.

I actually think that this is a great set up, do not touch or change anything, just put your substrate in and plant, don't move anything at all, really like it.

Oh OK, would still leave it though, wait a few more weeks.

Your original post says that the tank is 2 weeks old mate, not really ready to have fish/shrimp in, but 2 months is different.

Please don't put a corner filter in, it would destroy the look of inside the tank, a HOB would be suitable I think. I'd carpet the tank with Micranthemum sp. Monte Carlo, then have a small section of Hydro sp. Japan on the left side on it's own, with a frosted background. Hardscape it...

Judging by the photos I think you have enough light, shouldn't be an issue.

Amazon Frogbit would be ideal to have floating on the surface while the tank is new.

You could either keep them and put into a new tank, perhaps a small nano, nothing too large and something that can be used as a display piece elsewhere in the home, or you could perhaps just sell them off to someone on an Australian forum, or give them away, or swap them for something else.

PLANS PUT ON HOLD! Have had to cancel the order for the plants, tank is now potentially a Mr Aqua 12g 90cm x 20cm x 24cm, 45l. So once that's ready to go, will either run with a 'Monte Carlo' Iwagumi or a Dutch scape.

With CO2 the Micranthemum 'Monte Carlo' will boom no worries, should carpet in no time at all. I'm in Australia so not sure of what shrimp you have available to you.

Seeing I'm in the beginning stages of doing a small DSM Iwagumi tank, I thought I'd set up an emersed container next to the tank under the same lighting seeing the light is roughly 30cm larger than the tank, so more than enough for both. I'm after some info as well as plants that could be used...

OK, I've found an Aqua One Horizon tank in the back room, measures 50cm x 20cm x 30cm, this tank with the Ista 60cm LED I have, would this be suitable for a small Iwagumi carpet display? Would the light be strong enough? Unsure of how strong the light is.
