Critique my hardscape 145 Litre root on rocks

thank you @sflaqua34 that is really useful feedback. Good idea about the pliers! I have a couple extra bits of wood in my "holding" tank, but fear they are not the same type of root. I may have to consider what to do. That "left side" was going to be full of plants of course (not sure what...

Critique my hardscape Hardscape options - opinions very welcome

I am not an expert - and in fact find this whole hardscape malarkey quite difficult(!)...but I think this one looks far and away the best - the most natural looking.

    Not sure what lights now...

thank you milla....I too want to go for the cheaper option! This whole aquascape malarky isn't cheap though... Does it matter what light "type" it is - daylight, marine, natural, etc...? Thank you!

    Not sure what lights now...

Hi, a bit more help needed - please direct me elsewhere if this exists already...I am sure it has! I am rescaping my Jewel Rio 125L tank....I am no expert as other threads will testify...plants to be used include: • Micranthemum ‚Monte Carlo‘ • Pogostemon helferi • Microsorum pteropus...

Critique my hardscape I just can't do it...

Thank you emil. And that's a really interesting point... I didn't want to "blame my material" as I do accept that this needs to come "from me", but I did feel that having limited funds, and so limited material probably isn't helping. Don't get me wrong, I am certain that Good scapers could...

Critique my hardscape I just can't do it...

You know...I do find it a little odd - and, as you say...MASSIVELY frustrating.... I was fairly active on here about 3-4 years ago, as I "found" aquascaping as a logical progression from just having an aquarium...I thought I "found my thing". These beautiful scapes etc...a whole new world -...

Critique my hardscape I just can't do it...

Hey, long time lurker....always thoroughly inspired by yous. Simply, this aquascape malarky seems easy to some and a complete non-starter for me....so any advice... Be brutal, I can take it... My 'parameters' are that it's a Jewel Rio 125, internal filter removed, but plenty of external...

    Phosphates

Ok, that's all great, i understand now! Thank you all. I am going to go for a 50/50 RO/tap mix. This gives me a manageable 50% wc. The new water mix comes out at 140 TDS, PH 7.2 Gh 8 KH 6 Which all sounds nice and perfectly ordinary for the livestock, and perfectly good for the plants...

    Nutrafin / Hagen Test instructions

Thanks so much! I thought i was going mad... I'm going to test with the last of a different kit, just to confirm... But i think that, yes, we have very hard water down here in Oxfordshire; Thames Waters finest. Their own water quality report (from 2015) has a gh of 16, so the ball park seems...

    Phosphates

Thanks for all this great feedback! If i'm going to up my wc % and also switch to just tap water, should i perhaps up the % over the next few weeks? My tap water seems very hard 17gh and 11 kh... So, in order for me to understand... From the advice, for a planted tank these high Gh and Kh...

    Phosphates

Thanks for this 3-fingers...all very good info. I do have a drop checker; apologies, should have mentioned it! It errs on the slightly blue side of green. More generally, i think i may consider switching to pure tap water - depending what it's parameters are!? Please can anyone remind me...

Hi all... I had my water tested at the LFS and everything was ok, parameters wise; except the phosphates reading was "off the chart"... Well...i 'say' the parameters were/are all ok... The tank looks healthy, fish are healthy... Rio 125, internal and external filters. UK UP Aqua...

    Moving plants?

Hi, am looking to rescape an existing tank and might need to move some plants around , there's fish and shrimp in the tank currently. Some things, like Java fern are doing really well. Some crypts are....ok. Some Amazon swords have had some recent heavy pruning. And a couple are just crowns...

How to aquascape a nano aquarium

Excellent! As a 'newbie' looking to rescape my tanks...only properly this time, this has been really useful. Can I ask though....I am eager to know; what soil did you use, what lighting (wattage and hrs) and also more about what co2 set up for this size of tank... Many thanks!

I'm in need of some composition advise

Hi there,. I have enjoyed reading this post...and I have learnt a lot - not least that I need a LOT more patience and need to not rush my set-ups... I need to "play, leave, look, repeat". I am not artistic... Which makes it tougher! But I guess that's why I need to take my time more...

    Found wood....

Thanks for such a swift response.... Does that mean, steer clear, full stop.... Or just, don't use any chemicals, but scrubb it well and better still, try and boil it? It is already 'heavy' and waterlogged.

    Found wood....

So...there I was walking along the river Thames and I came across some inspiration for a rescape... Well...I think it's interesting! It's about a metre long, and of a decent girth. It is a piece if root, from what I can tell, rather than branch, but was washed up and loose. It has bark on...

My goodness! Much to my surprise, there is an outside chance, a possibility, a hope within hope...that I may be allowed another tank. The unit is 75cm wide, by 39cm deep. I have on it already my Dennerle nano 30 crs shrimp set up... I like shrimps, and plants, and am happy to have this "less...

    New to Shrimp

...it was bought to my attention that my cunning plan, above, is subject to an issue.... Thank you for such a swift red Ian. I'm reading all that I can!!! What do you mean by circulation? I have the internal jewel filter at one end, and an external eheim cannister (2213) at the other, so I think the flow is OK.... Unless you mean something else. Does that sound OK? I'll...
