    Advice on new light setup

Well, the light has been install, and I love it. The first thing is the way it's NOT sitting on the tank, the arm comes up from behind and over. The control of the spectrum is great, I didn't think I would be bothered, but It makes so mush difference. And then there's is the control over the...

    Advice on new light setup

Cheers Alto. Never thought about running them together for comparison. I will play around with the height when it's in place, but it won't be less then 9 inches to start with. Co2 is running around 35ppm, after i ran out last week and had a bit of algae forming. I have gone for the solid...

    Hello with some questions

That looks like a great selection to start with! The only floating plant that I know of is the frogbit which needs moderate lighting, so I've read. Just keep in mind if you have low lighting, you don't want to block out to much with floating plants.

    Hello with some questions

Hi Hooky. I'm not good at plant id but http://tropica.com/en/plants/ is a good place to start. The easy selection should be ideal for a low tech tank. People have used plain sand or gravel before, but if your budget allows, it would help to have a little layer of plant substrate under the...

    Advice on new light setup

I have just treated myself to some new lighting, Kessil A160we Tuna Sun with mounting arm. Before I install it I would like to plan the height to install it at, and a start plan for the intensity when installed. At the moment I have a Dennerle 24 watt Scaper led 6 inches over a 50lt Scaper tank...

I also read that it does from 30 to 60cm, but it would be nice to hear it from someone who has one. My eheim is turned down because it is to powerful for the tank if it is on full. I have adjusted the spray bar so the surface is looking better.I am hoping that an over sized filter with Lily pipes should do the job nicely. The tank is only 50 litres, 45*36*31.

    Just a few questions

Thanks for the advice guys. I will have to check the temperature recommendations for the plants I have. Am I right in thinking that if you have the co2 at 30ppm, dosing EI ferts at the recommended dose, then adjust the light to suit the plants? With the light, is it best to adjust the length...

    Confused, ammonia spike!?

I thought I would check the level before I did the water change, and it is 0. So I check the nitrite level and I have a little spike there. I'm going to leave it another 24 hours to see what happens. I must have disturbed some ammonia in the substrate.

    Confused, ammonia spike!?

A little, I put a couple of plants back in, and a gentle swirl with the siphon tube just over the top. I didn't do any thing that I would have distributed it that much, unless ther was a bit of a build up in the substrate. How long does it for the ammonia in the substrate to go?
