    Water changes whilst abroad

Great, I assume leaving the water in a plastic tub for 2 weeks shouldn't be an issue? I plan to control it all using smart plugs which I will control remotely whilst watching it over a web cam so won't have any risk unless the internet at home cuts out in the middle.

    Water changes whilst abroad

I have a large goldfish tank (240L) and I am going to be going abroad for around 4 weeks. I set up auto feeders already, reducing feeds to once every two days and turning off heaters in order to reduce appetite. I am also planning on seeing if I can set up something to automatically perform a...

    DET WRGB light screen

You want something like this: https://a.aliexpress.com/_vXnvkX Maybe not that exact model but the connector looks pretty standard and AliExpress has loads of similar ones, they are called magnetic pogo connectors I believe and are commonly used on smart watches.

    DET WRGB light screen

It is using a pretty standard magnetic to USB connector which is replaceable: It doesn't look particularly flimsy and you can get replacement cables off AliExpress for under a pound.

    DET WRGB light screen

Thought this might be interesting to people... I recently bought a DET WRGB light screen (60x36cm) which is a new model with RGB control. The panel itself is similar to the ADA light screen, the key difference is that it does not require a transparent gradient film as you can control the top...

ADA Amazonia running out of nutrients?

Haven't done a PH profile recently, I need a PH pen for this right? Tank is 36L, filter is Eheim classic 250 (440Lph rated). I will update with some images in a second. I had a bad outbreak of string algae/BBA earlier in the year as well but seems to be mostly under control now, some remnants...

ADA Amazonia running out of nutrients?

I noticed my hermianthus carpet has been withering a bit lately, it is forming string clumps without the bushy compact leaves it used to be. I suspect the Amazonia substrate has run its course as it has been there over 2 years now without additions. Can anyone recommend any root tabs or...

Opinions on 240L aquariums. Fluval Roma vs Eheim Vivaline vs Juwel Rio

Update on this - I bought the Eheim vivaline 240. It's been a great tank so far, I really like the cover as it opens up fully allowing easy access to the water. I am running two externals with it, one no brand 1200lph and the ECCO Eheim which came with it. Cabinet is wide open at the back so...

Opinions on 240L aquariums. Fluval Roma vs Eheim Vivaline vs Juwel Rio

Thanks for the replies people. I am keeping goldfish in the tank with some anubias so high lights are not a real concern. I suspect none of the tanks have enough filtration included and I plan to supplement the bundled filter with another canister which is why I am interested in whether the...

Opinions on 240L aquariums. Fluval Roma vs Eheim Vivaline vs Juwel Rio

Hi all, not 100% planted tank relevant but thought I would ask anyways... I am currently in the market for a ~240L aquarium to house my fancy goldfish and weather loach, upgrading from a 140L tank. I am looking primarily at 3 options, the Fluval Roma, Juwel Rio and Eheim Vivaline. All three...

    Cheap (bulk) chilli/mosquito Rasbora

Wow 15 AUD is very pricey, these are relatively common in the UK. You could try finding Ian (West London seller) on BAND if you are willing to come down to London to pick up, I seem to remember he was able to order some for under £2 each at some point.

    Plants suitable for nano tank

Ordered anubias nana petite, buce mini leaf and some MC for now. Was also interested in albida brown but not sure how well it would do under high lights and CO2...

    Plants suitable for nano tank

Thanks for the suggestions people! Anubias pangolino looks very interesting, always though nana was the smallest. Can't seem to find stock anywhere in the UK though. Think I might look out for some Bolbitis heteroclita "difformis" as well.

    Plants suitable for nano tank

I am looking for some plants to decorate my hardscape. It's a rocky scape in a small tank (36L). I'm finding it quite difficult to judge the scale of plants in images online, was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for small plants which wouldn't look too out of scale with my carpet of...

    Plans for full rescape.

Yes, I am quite worried about that as I usually take my time with hardscaping. Expect it to last a week or so, especially after filling and waiting for sediment to wash out. The tub is actually about the same size as the tank since the tank is small (36L) I'm going to try run my full setup in it...

    Plans for full rescape.

I am planning on doing a full rescape of my 36L tank and was wondering what's the best way to go about doing this knowing that I will likely take some time figuring out the hardscape/planting etc. I plan to do the following: 1. Move shrimp and fish into a bucket. Have a bunch of Otos, amanos...

    Filter Porn - ADA Superjet

From experience, it's best not to rely on their guidance on this. They recommend the ES600, a 360LPH filter for the 90P, a 160L+ aquarium, there is no way that is enough flow for the size if you are even moderately planted and have some hardscape in the tank. This is especially true once the...

Maybe a bit off topic but interested to know if T5 reptile bulbs can be used in aquarium set ups. Filter Porn - ADA Superjet

Don't think it's a fair comparison to the Oase 600. One is rated at 360LH, the other at 1200LH. From experience the ES600 is around 360LH without any media and level head but does noticeably drop with media introduced similar to any other canister filter. Would be more apt to compare the Oase to...

    Scissors for 60L tank

Ah, I realised I actually bought the ADA short curved (180mm) scissors not the S curved (255mm) scissors by mistake :arghh:. I put up the short ones for trade or sale, hoping to get the S ones instead. I think the short might be a bit too short for the 60L tank.

  29. J

    Scissors for 60L tank

    DIY Glass aquarium cabinet

Tempted to give it a try with perspex. Check out this replica lightscreen: Cost around £80 for the 60cm version. Brand was called DET, couldn't find anything about it online. They had 90cm and 120cm as well. Looks identical to the ADA version, including the way it clips onto the tank and the provided gradient background.

    New ADA light: Aquasky RGB

Seen the black unit in action. The light looks very powerful, more than enough for a 60cm tank, rated at 45watts I think. Definitely has a different tint than the G series aquasky which accentuates the green, this is more like the solar RGB but perhaps not as vibrant. Not the biggest fan of...

    ADA filters LPH

    Hair algae on plants!

Your images don't show the algae but I'm assuming it's BBA? If it's on anubis, this is usually due to lack of flow, some nutrients imbalance and/or too much light. How much flow have you got? Also you might want to switch to something that contains the full package of nutrients like TNC...

    First scape 60x45x30

Too much is always the worst :) cleaning up an algae outbreak is much worse than slightly slower growing plants. You can ramp up the brightness after you are properly cycled and the plants are growing well.

Black algae or some kind of black "coating" on plants

What filter are you running on that? It's likely a flow issue.

    First scape 60x45x30

Looks good! Consider dosing daily with easy carbo or excel as well, this will help the Monte Carlo especially.
  55. J

is liquid carbon better in one go or smaller doses through the day?

I'm not sure it makes a big difference to be honest. I dose at random times once a day, as long as you stick to the same dosage every day it shouldn't really matter whether you spread it out or do it in one go.

    BBA Peroxide dosing

The idea is it gets broken down in the 1 hour period. I would recommend you use powerheads or an empty filter to get flow in the tank during the the hour to allow to reach all places and break down faster.
  61. J

    BBA Peroxide dosing

Yes, never push the H2O2 into the filter, it will kill all the bacteria. You can run the filter if you remove the bio, some say the flow helps.
