The single male feeder guppy is a an excellent inclusion among shrimp. Its true he would take any new shrimplets but the adult neos he simply ignores and thats rare among fish
The small colony and shrimp are in balance and the tank is highly productive for epiphytic pickings and tons of pods. I...
thats a fascinating challenge. if you have no other support devices and we have to use what you have, I i vote lights off the whole time and leave windows open to get ambient sunlight. the plants will not die, they w be stressed and then when you get back you do slow photoperiod ramp ups as in...
Jason I think that is oxygen saturation based o2 bubbling and not co2
I think it occurs end of light cycle for a reason, saturation above 105% but not before photosynthesis has had a chance to run for hours and spike up the dissolved o2 to the point later production emits as insoluble bubbles.
The co2 is dialed in and this tank is still and covered with a fitted glass lid, it doesn't evaporate
The carryover o2 is enough to get to the next day cycle for the fish and shrimp
The fish and shrimp do not have to be fed they eat off the production of the tank. I can spike the bubbling...
and the most shocking part is that an api kit would ever indicate zero instead of .25 :)
google search returns show api constantly indicating free ammonia from things like distilled water or cycled tank samples. this caused many an unnecessarily long cycling thread!
I disagree w science fiction, again the post implies without human intervention establishment of a bacterial colony couldn't occur. the three options for ammonia sourcing are incomplete.
While its true ammonia is needed, what's incorrect is that we must manually provide it or design for it...
ender is correct, we have deluded ourselves about how much control we have over the most adapted life form in our tanks. Non issue using tap water to clean filters.
we can link some studies showing nitrifying bacteria living in, and coming out of the tap. in fact it varies and at times can be...
I think it looks great. You have a nice carpet for sure. I can see people are ribbing you pretty hard for the gourami in a small tank, but I have a different take especially since I keep a fish in a half gallon :)
If you can feed him as he would normally eat in a larger tank and keep the water...
my vote is 70% likely hydrophobic proteins 30% oil slick from various organic combinations in the tank, some good btb water changes to flush it out is ok, or not it doesnt sound harmful.
I do all still tanks with no circulation, so working with topslicks is common and nbd imo
wanted to chime in support of the 6500 goal
at the start of my new planted micro tank i was determined to use some existing 10k/actinic 50 50 reef bulbs and it wasnt working well. agreeing to get back in line I ordered the 6500 from hellolights.com and it worked wonders. first point accepted~...
I'm sure they will chime in if they feel like their tanks qualify in ways I said they couldn't, sure its a testy thing to say let's wait for links. If there is none after that kind of offer up, maybe that does say something. My little challenge is only in fun, we know how detritus works and I'm...
im specifically speaking for everyone on the whole board and they are reading it. im sure someone will post up if they have such a system, who wouldn't want to disprove some new poster making claims for every aquarium in the world
not anyone here has a non exportive filter or tank that has no...
and as long as we don't post a pic of your uncleaned filters w no detritus your statements are safe :)
this claim was given 24 hours to back up and that's as long as it takes to process big claims against known aquarium dynamics. no pics are coming of a filter that doesn't need export, or of...
Some back tracking is going on. Replacing the filtration accomplishes what I've been saying and is totally opposite of what you have been saying
the substrate in that picture does have detritus in it, and high flow redirects it to a catch, and •remove• area thanks for posting that. Show us a...
Jose
What you are describing about your tank has been attempted for decades and never attained that Ive seen, its part of the true self containing ecosystem approach so many describe (but we need links to make a description real)
any system that can accomplish total assimilation has unusual...
Then we test the claim about how adding ferts in overdose cannot cause a temp algae spike in otherwise healthy tank. With something very simple and nonlethal to anything in your tank we can test that. I'm for sure claiming overdose of phosphorous and liquid iron w do it, but we can test these...
In my tank thats probably why I dont see that detritus powder you are talking about. What goes into the tank is all being transformed into nitrates, phosphates and co2 mainly. Substances which all plants can consume.
i wasnt meaning to imply the algae was out of control or that p was my...
Quick update
got a pic of peroxide facilitated decomposition occurring in my palmtop tank
I dropped the water line all the way to mist some hair algae on the front area high light carpet marsilea minuta
as it cooked for a sec, the seepage acts on plant mulm, waste organics in the bed.
the...
I don't dose my planted tanks or my reefs with the peroxide direct to the top water Jose, my use for it is a cleaning tool and spot sterilizer for algae. .. The secondary effects are some further digestion of organic wastes collected about but I never thought it was ridding the tank of them. ...
I routinely use 35% peroxide in my pico reef to clean it up once every few months, things have adapted its going on 5 yrs now
put a full quart through it~
we can have food grade 35% here in the states my tanks use that strength carefully
its very dangerous. .. can blind, use eye protection...
I'm trying to load two images per page but my ipad browser won't..sorry for multi posts but it only posts img for the second one
These micro tanks have matching stands and canopies I do reefs and planted in them
this bowl is 13 yrs old, bamboo is about ten feet tall lol
Five gallons of water bowl is 19 gallon
Has rock wood foam and substrate living back wall
I don't really prune or scape, just change water monthly 100% to keep shrimp happy
no co2 just extremely high organic substrate for natural...
This is considered very low maintenance. I ei the ei dosing method, meaning I have 'some' macro injected in the tank and 'some' csb micros and iron lol. total random dosing
I found through lengthy experimentation capture and timed release is the right way to gas a half gallon planted tank at...
