Its post mechanical filter, but pre biological... The exisiting pre filter clogs quickly, and I need to clean once a week...that is why I am seeking for a larger unit hence this thread as cabinet space is premium. Should I remove the filter floss, or look for a larger pump?
Good point, but I can fit and probably will fit it after a large pre filter containing course and media filter mat and filter floss. This is the reason I need it on the inlet side so I can fit a larger prefilter.
Due to the layout of my cabinet I want to connect my CEG CO2 reactor to the inlet side of my Eheim external filter rather than the outlet side.
Is there any detrimental effect of doing this, is it less effective at "holding" the CO2 in the water?
Just purchased my first bottle of Seachem Safe and it smells rank.
I have the bottle closed and in a ziplock bag but yet when I open the cupboard the smell is so strong.
I assume the smell is normal and I am looking for ideas of how to best store it so the smell does not escape.
I was...
Hi Foxfish, thanks for your reply. to answer your first question yes there seems to be enough CO2 dissolved. I have managed to overcome this by turing down the co2 injection rate and now I do not have one large buble my many smaller ones. Currently I am employing a narrow nect bottle but will...
I have built this reactor but inject the co2 into the 16mm inflow pipe via a t-piece. What I notice is that the co2 bubbles collect at the top and merge to create one large bubble. Is there a way to avoid this?

I have no idea what it may contain. The question is, should I bin my EBAY Nitrate and buy from a reputable seller ir CO"art?
Hi Sasha, If you read the sticky that I provided a link to, they indicate that some Ebay items might not be "pure" Potassium Nitrate, as there is no control of sales on Ebay. If so then there may be other chemical/filler that may contribute to BBA.
I have been dosing the same amount of nutrients for some time, and only recently I got a suden outbreak of BBA. The only thing I can think of that has changed was a batch of new Potassium Nitrate from Ebay. Reading through the sticky this came to mind.
I see some talk on this thread about BGA, but can BBA be cause by this issue. ?
I have had a sudden a almost complete attack of BBA, and some fish loss without any changes to my setup.
Looking throgh this thread I recently bought, of ebay, some more Potassium Nitrate. Could this be the cause...
Just to clarify, if fitting the needle valve to the regulator this will be a direct fitting without any piping. The reason I ask is that my solenoid output can only accept a pipe so I cannot fit the needle valve directly to it as I would prefer.
I know it is the general practice to pleace the Co2 solenoid beteen the regulator and needle valve, but is ther any reason or problem with fitting it after the needle valve (on the low pressure side) and fitting the needle valve directly to the regulator?
Hi ian_m
The hose fitting should not present a problem as I am hoping to remove the tails and fit directly to to regulator. Failing that, I am sure I can get the 4mm tubing to fit.
I have in fact ordered one with the 230V AC to use with my timer.
The lugs appear to use the same connector as...
My current CO2 soleniod is fitten between my regulator and needle valve.
Is this the recommend location, or can the solenoid be fitted after the needle valve.
The reason I ask is because the replacement solenoid comes with hose tails and I am not sure it will have the same screw fitting to fit...
My Aquamedic Pulse solenoid has died on me and I am looking for a replacement.
I have come across Welding solenoid like this

And was wondering if it would be suitable as they are much cheaper that aquarium specific
My main concern would...
Can someone now tell me what would the overall length be of the 80watt tubes including the endcaps.
I know the tubes are 1449mm long but how much extra does the endcap add.
I need to ensure that it will fit in my hood.
Thanks
Thanks for all you answers, but what I am really looking for is what sort of wattage I need. As an electronic engineer I am not worried about fittings and luminaire, just what wattage and how many tubes I need.
I have a planted 60in x 15in x 24in(deep) tank with pressurised CO" and ferts added and would like to know what t5 lighting to add.
I am currently running with 96watts of T8 lighting and am looking to upgrade
I am currently running an FE setup with the D-D disposible bottle regulator and converter.
I cannot seem to adjust the regulator anymore to keep the pressure down to 1 bar.
I am looking to replace the regulator and would like peoples opinion on the below regulator. it seems very cheap, and...
I do not believe there was any water quality issues as they were taken out of a tank, with tank water, that they all were living in for about a year.
I have no information about the feeding issue.
It is bad enough to lose the fish, I just needed to know what killed them so can I don't make the mistake again.
I've invested now in some Kordon breather bags, which should hopefully help, and of course next time not to have so many fish in 1 bag..
I recently bought some fish from a fellow aquarist. they were 9 cardinal tetras, 2 corydoras and a flying fox.
We bagged them up in one large fish bag, and I transported them about 4 miles.
By the time I got them home the flying fox was dead, some of the tetras were dead, others were gasping...
I too have a D&D regulator and was planning to use a FE. What most people may not understand is that there is NO nut on the regulator. the screw thread is tapped directly into the regulator body. Even when using the adaptor to convert from disposible to refillable bottle, it will still require...
