Hi, I think the fungus/slime you're talking about is saprolegnia - I used a bunch of redmoor in my rcs tank with no problems. Saprolegnia formed too. I know tiger snails take care of it quite readily.

Maybe you could ask you lfs to order in some specific plants? More often than not they have access to a wider variety but won't order them in if there isn't the demand. As for the filter, do you know what make/model it is? That may help indicate its turnover :)

They're disappearing from their natural habitats rapidly so I think its a bit of a necessity to scare people away. Not that this will prevent them being imported however.

Scape looks really nice, could possibly trim those centre plants down to conform to the diagonal line you've already started on the right hand side. This often helps as it leads your eyes to a centre point. Healthy looking plants by the way.
