    Sump layout

I would personally use the left section as a top up as you will loose water from sump not tank. Then use other 2 sections for filters, CO2 injection and return pump .

    Wife approved a fish tank! 120L+70L sump+lots of DIY=my planted tank :)

Looking good! Like a good summed tank. I would have to put some gloss white vinyl over the weir to cover it as seeing the pipework would annoy me.

    Water changes

I have a 100 litre water butt that I fill with RO water for water changes .. question is should it be heated before I fill my tank or will fish cope with lower temp until water heats up in tank . I see a lot of videos with what looks like people just refilling with garden hoses or similar ?

    Moving an aquarium long distance

When I moved my tank, all be it to another room. I completely emptied it and replaced all the substrate. I felt that it would just churn it up to much to put back in. As for your filter if you can transport it wet I feel that's best option but as long as it stays damp it shouldn't be an issue...

    Low energy silent return pump.

Anybody recommend a silent or as near as possible sump return pump. Needs to be 4000ish lt/hr. The one I have has developed a distinct hum and I have tried to quieten it down but with no success.

    Heater question.

All the heaters I've owned have been wildly inaccurate. I have one that I set to 29 to get 22 degrees. As for temp above room temp. My tank is 400+ litres and has 2 x 150w heaters on it. As a marine set-up it would heat to 26 degrees and hold it there. Mutant is in my dining room which is also a...

    150gal Indonesian Tank

I have a similar fish list. Rainbows and danios. I also looked into bottom feeders. Couldn't find anything that would suit low tech. Hara hara are river fish so need flow and high oxygen levels is the information I found so didn't think they would be suitable. I ended up putting corys in mine.

I have a couple of bits of my wood that stick out of the water and was wondering?. Would anubias grow with its roots around the wood but it's leaves fully out the water? If not any other plant that would thrive in this position? No soil just wood and fully exposed leaves?

    Power heads

I had Tunze's in my reef and was very impressed with the smaller uncontrolled ones. The bigger controlled ones hustlers blowing their power supplies. If you want a wider more gentle flow just cut out every other vein on the outer frame. Works a treat

    Polystyrene - ok to use?

    I changed my mind...

Justin85 had/has full CO2 system for sale might be worth asking him! I used pub gas 14lb bottles when I ran CO2 on my marine tank but I had room for the tall bottles. If you are needing bottle to fit in your tank cabinet then go for FE bottle I guess.

  79. Rich Jackson

    Stocking levels

I have 450 litre tank which I suspect once substrate and wood is in would total around 380-400ltr and a 120ltr sump again probably running 80-90ltr with turnover of 2000ltr/hr. Fairly heavy plant mass adding ferts at 5ml a day. Constant water change of about 2 ltrs a day and at the moment 20...

    Stocking levels

I know it's a bit of a how longs a piece of string question but What's do people think rough stocking levels for a 450ltr low tech tank are? I'm thinking of neon rainbows or threadfin rainbows and tetras with corys and ottos. Where do I stand on compatibility with shrimp with these fish also.
