    Iwagumi attempt 01

It was very simple. 12hrs of light, couple of generous mistings a day. Every couple of weeks I would add a few of drops of micro nutrients (EI) to the spray can. Having read about people experiencing root burn and such when doing DSM with ADA amazonia, I also regularly siphoned as much water...

    Iwagumi attempt 01

After 60 days of dryness, the flood came. First though, a picture or two of how things grew in. And now, finally submersed! In Situ

I guess one would continue to use a low placed drop checker to monitor levels near the substrate, and the pen to measure the pH drop which occurs between co2 on and lights on. Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk

    Takee Too (115L)

Have reduced photoperiod as you suggest. Curious to see how things respond over the next week or two. I have a dropchecker placed near the bottom of the tank, and it always changes to lime green, almost yellow so I don't think the plants are suffering from lack of CO2, but possibly unstable...

    Takee Too (115L)

Thanks Ian. I have already removed the reflectors, because I agree that the light intensity is simply too high. Had thought that if nutrients were all available the plants would handle it, since a lot of them came from my last tank so didn't need to acclimatise to being submersed. However all...

Algae, mostly Staghorn, affecting weakest leaves. Plants (all except Pogostemon helferi) are growing OK, but something is clearly out of balance. CO2 is as high as it can get without affecting fish negatively. Flow is good (too good I think, the Glosso is having a hard time getting roots to...

So it has taken me a while to get hold of the right lamp, the ADA Amazonia powder and the plants, but finally the time has come! Here are some pictures of the progression.

Question about the Dry Start Method

Would that (filling, running for 24hrs, draining again) also be beneficial when using ADA Amasonia?

    Iwagumi attempt 01

Thanks Dantrasy. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with the 'less is more' approach, and not the full-packed mountain range scape like in the first picture. While it could no doubt also work, it doesn't leave much space for plants (a bit of HC and moss at most). I'm on a mission to find a happy...

    Iwagumi attempt 01

Hi folks, So the time has come... I'm finally attempting my first Iwagumi scape. These have fascinated me for a long time, but I've never dared to have a go at creating one myself. Iwagumi often looks so simple, but I am fully aware that it is a lot harder than it looks. I went to the nearby...

Thanks guys, you're too kind! Noman, believe it or not there already are a few Blyxa behind the wood. The one at the front is quite dominant though so I might do as you suggest and move it back further. Not so sure about the Rotala wallichii in the foreground though. Admit it would contrast...

Hi there, First of all, I would just like to share how much I love this forum! Seriously, it is such a precious resource, and I am greatly indebted to all of you who make it what it is. I've had this aquarium for about two years now, but just recently decided it was time to start a new canvas...

HQL lamps - pros and cons?

Thanks for the feedback. I guess the benefit of such a suspended lamp is that you can quite simply change light intensity by adjusting it's height. Edvet, what kind of bulb are you running? I see they are all in the red side of the spectrum, but I would like to find the bulb which is least red...

HQL lamps - pros and cons?

Hi folks, Wondering if anyone has experience with suspended HQL lamps (Thats the German name, I think they are a.k.a. Mercury Vapour lamps). I'm living in Germany and can get them 'used' on ebay pretty cheap. Don't see them mentioned here much so wondering if I'd better steer clear although...

    Co2Art regulator options

    Very helpful, thanks Vazkez
  23. Mr.Manjushri

Changed to a Sera Co2 Reactor 1000. Gave up on inline diffuser for my planted tank.

Unfortunately my experience with this reactor was disappointing. I found it didn't fully dissolve the co2 so I still had micro bubbles escaping into the tank. Maybe due to high bubble rate (5-6/sec) and strong flow (eheim 2178/600T). It also reduced my flow by about 50% which was more than I had...

    Co2Art regulator options

Hi guys, Looking at getting a new regulator from Co2Art, and see that they have a couple of varieties, a basic model and the so called 'professional' version. Does anyone have any experience with either of these, or know what the major difference between the two is? Cheers

    Bypass for AM 1000

Not a bad solution... I'm also using the AM1000 and have the same trouble with small bubbles continuously escaping. Have tried a piece of coarse foam with no noticeable improvement, but maybe two layers does the trick. Does this setup completely stop all bubbles, even tiny ones, from escaping?

    Struggling to grow healthy plants

8 hrs is still plenty, a lot of people reduce to 6 or even 4 hrs to deal with problems, esp algea related. How are you 'measuring' Co2? You state 30ppm, but your plants are telling you they aren't happy. Have you tried measuring ph drop?

Definitely reduce your photoperiod. Most likely Co2 related.

    600L/h rated filter 20L tank - overkill?

    Pro 3e 2078

You've probably figured it out already, but here's the answer anyway: Yes, if you turn on manual mode and press + a few times the filter will run at max until you tell it to stop. Awesome filter, I've been running it for two years and it's still powering along like new (a few cleanings along the...

    600L/h rated filter 20L tank - overkill?

So I'm planning to setup a new small planted tank and am looking for the right filter. Being a big Eheim fan, I've locked my sights on the Ecco pro 200. It's rated at 600L/H, while my tank is 21Litres. Assuming that once filter material is in place, and an in-line heater is added the flow will...

DIY Project High flow DIY reactor - now with video

    Best method of co2 infusion?

Hi folks, So I'm on the hunt for a better method of co2 infusion - currently using a bubble ladder from Dennerle. Ideally an inline solution, which doesn't result in 'mist', and which doesn't negatively affect flow too much. Reactors seem like a good option, but I have zero experience and...

Algae affecting bottom plants... any ideas?

Good suggestions, thanks ceg. I will reduce the photoperiod to 8hrs. Would it also be wise to cut the lighting by half except for a 'midday' burst of 2-4 hrs? I was under the impression 2 wpg was a good target for lighting (admittedly I have approx. 2.5 wpg) but maybe I misunderstood...
