i dont know the exact price but must be something like:
2 sheets of MDF around 60 euro
some screws 5 or 6 euro
i already had the paint & woodglue etc in house so no need to buy a new can of paint
So maybe to build it new would be around 100 euro all combined.
The Otocinclus always reminds me of this very old video (14 years ago, getting old..... :P)
I really love these fish in planted tanks/good and healthy environments and they are really cool to have in a group.
But also always think about the origin of them which always feels weird to see....
First used some bags filled with lava rocks for the back to get some height for the soil buildup.
Also used a cheap (1 euro) pipe insulation to put on the front glass. Just to make sure i won't hit it with some rocks etc :P
After that i put in the rest with the rocks, wood and...
No concerns here regarding the MDF. I've made a similar one back in 2009 for my other/old tank (100x50x50cm).
Its moved from house etc, positions, and moving to make place for this new 120P.
Never had issues with it. Made sure all parts are covered with the paint layers and inside the...
Running the Eheim 4+ 600 (2275) on my 120P for a month now. Later when my old tank is gone all add the eheim 2217 to it (now running on the old tank untill i have sold it...)
But the 2275 is running great. Nice outflow, very quiet, nice filter media capacity, easy in use.
Had the Oase 850T...
Same like my previous DIY "ADA" cabinet I made one for the 120P.
First plan was making a 3D model so I knew I got the dimensions etc. correct and get a visual idea on the screen.
Small thing I changed this time was the front panel. This one is now aligned and in front of the top panel...
After a couple of years it was time to get a new tank  (old tank is still running for now).
So what upgrade did i make?
Tank: ADA 120P
Cabinet: Custom made one in the style of ADA
Light: Chihiros Wrgb 2 120
Filter: Eheim 4+ 600 (2275) + Eheim classic 2217 (from the previous setup)...
I noticed a photo with the output of a tube mounted to the light stand. I couldn't find the used dosing system/pump in this topic via the search.
So i was wondering: which pump/system is connected on the other side of that tube? :P
I have still a GHL dosing pump here. But it's not a "smart" version. The screen brightness is going down after these years so reading it is also hard.
In the past i already replaced the screen/board for a new one. But it expensive.
So i was wondering: would it be possible to convert this "old"...
There are different ender versions. Also a V2 etc.
Some have bigger build/print plates etc. Other screens/panels.
Extra options like a glass bed for printing.
So lot of options to choose from: https://all3dp.com/reviews/
ender 3 pro here. Perfect printer. Printed som upgrades etc. :P
I used this video in the beginning to set it up
And this one for some extra tips etc: https://www.youtube.com/user/beginnerelectronics
Also some subreddits like:
Here still thinking if i should/want to use and buy a RO unit.
Currently using rain water as a test to see if it works good(just for the plants etc).
Also running CO2, plant ferts, high light etc.
What i noticed was that plants like rotala green did better compared like before.
Tap water here...
Same here. Still looking for a new filter for the coming 120P and i would like to give the 850T a new try (the one i had was returned to the store). But on youtube, fora etc it still doesn't give me a good feeling and the noise/air issues keep popping up :(
In my tank with combination of the eheim 2217 they work perfect :)
Really like them in use. And also very easy to clean because of the simple shapes and parts you can remove.
But with more powerful filters you need to watch out cause the floating part of the skimmer will get sucked down.
Found this topic again.
Planning a new tank upgrade. it will be the ADA 120-P
In the past i've made a ADA DIY cabinet for my current tank of 100x50x50 and i used 18mm MDF.
After 11/12 years its still holding great. :)
But for a 120-P could i still use 18mm or should i upgrade that to 22mm...
Received mine yesterday. All working here.
Did you plug in the cable for the solenoid valve (red light will turn on below the bubble counter) so the co2 can past that and into the bubble counter.
First gauge here also sits around 700 with a new 10kg cylinder connected to it.
Same here with the classic 2217.
Remove it from the cabinet. Using the eheim taps.
Put it on the table/sink. open up the bottom tap and top so the vacuum is gone.
Remove the top en first grid/mesh.
The substrat is inside a filterbag so i can pull it out easy and put it in a bucket with aquarium...
Other question: when using RO or rainwater etc and you want to add minerals to it you have these GH/KH products.
But is there a difference between GH+ for aquarium and Ponds? Or can you also use for example Velda GH+ in your aquarium to add the minerals?
For now i used 2 spare grid parts for the 2217 (7275600 - grid for classic 600 (2217))
1 of them i shorted the stands a bit so the gap was smaller. But works perfect to keep in the white filter + it was faster to do this instead of printing parts :P
So now it has:
Like @John q mentioned. Try to cut some tops and plant them in different positions. For me i noticed it was not the position when rotalas didn't grow like i wanted/expected. The "test" positions made that clear for me.
Now using softer water again (rainwater for now) instead of tapwater and the...
Looking for a new/upgrade filter here for the new tank.
Now still using the eheim classic 2217.
But looking for an upgrade makes you wonder, why all these weird options on filters these days?
Flow bypasses, wifi connections etc.....
I just want a filter that has a good flow, room for...
Could be. At least the only thing I can come up with :P
Yesterday added some extra filter floss on the intake (it was sunny outside so nice to be in the garden instead of inside :P )
Also flushed the barrel to get the bottom clean (some leftovers of the roof that came of during the heavy snow...
Used the rainwater for the first time today with a water change.
Only used 60 liters (see this post for more info Rainwater confussion )
What i noticed was that the rainwater has a little bit of a white haze in it when filling the tank/jerrycans. It wouldn't of course not be as clear as tap...
Fitted a 227 liter rain barrel last week. I wanted to try this again instead of the tap water.
Also want to try if i could get the TDS around 120 for better plant grow etc
Current TDS values:
Tap Water: ±175
Rain water: ±14
Still trying to find a good and simple solution to fill the aquarium...
Got a 3d printer for a while now and picking up the 3d modeling (still a rookie :P ). I was thinking to make something for inside the eheim 2217 to prevent the foams and the especially the white foam to be crushed by the media on top of it (substrat).
More people have tried this or other filter...
Rain barrel is standing. Short rain period yesterday and the complete barrel is filled with 227 Liters :)
Now getting some diy ideas to give it a simpel and replaceable prefilter option with some sponges or white filter floss etc.
Or maybe a 3d print like this Water filter for rain barrel by...
Ordered a barrel today (was on sale :) ) and will put it on a different location as before. This time in the shadow part of the garden.
Plan is to use a old pond pump which i now use inside a bucket in the sink to refill the tank.
But in the barrel i can put some fine filtering on the pump so it...
Here also thinking to get a rain barrel in the garden (after the other one broke/cracked because of the sun etc :P few years ago ) or get a RO system......
But still not sure what to do or if it will collect enough rain to do the weekly water changes etc.
RO is always so slow and lots of waste...
Thinking if the Eheim professionel 4+ 350T would be a nice addition (combined with the 2217) to add it as an extra filter. Plus it has a build in heater.
Also noticed there are 5+ version but they have much higher prices.
During the period i used the biomaster (with the default in & outflow) air was still trapped inside the canister. Co2 was turned off because i use a aquamedic 1000 reactor and this has a 12/16 connector and i wanted to test the filter first before i reconnected everything . So the tank was...
yeah the 850T went back today. Wasn't happy with the air + noise of the head.
So today time to replace the eheim rotor so the filter can run again deadly silent in the cabinet and living room :)
Almost bought a second 2217. It was now 119 euro......
But i'll first need to wait for some MDF so...
yeah the eheim 2217 is still a great filter. Cleaned it today put all the media back (which i used shortly in the biomaster to test) :P
Still need to replace the rotor. But mabe i can do that tomorrow (if the store is open because of covid rules etc).
After giving the filter a good clean and the...
Planning an upgrade on my current tank to a 120x60x50.
Also will it get a twinstar light and co2 etc.
Currently having a Eheim 2217 (and a biomaster 850T which will return to the shop because of the air purging problem and noise).
So i'll go back to Eheim. (sorry oase)
But which model/type...
thanks. i Will first wait for the Oase support before i make changes to the filter and decide if i'll keep it or return it :)
Edit: Big change i'll return this filter and go back to eheim......
Now i need to find a new filter for use on a 120x60x50 tank or a filter in combination with my old...
Now in contact with Oase. Already tried the shaking etc to get air out. But it keeps getting back.
Als noticed something new now when i tried to shake/tilt it 5 minutes ago........... a pretty wet floor......
When tilting the filter forward (so possible air could rise up in the direction of the...
Filter is now outside the cabinet and pipes etc aren't touching it at this moment.
But it's still pretty loud humming compared to my previous eheim. I can clearly hear the filter running.
But it's not the sound of air/water thats moving or creating the humming/sound. Its just the rotor/head...
Now testing it with one sponge less in the pre-filter + moving them apart so small gaps in between are created.
Also need to find a way to reduce the humming. Pretty annoying sound to hear that in the living room.
But it's not the filter bottom housing which is vibrating. It's just the...
Did a upgrade for the tank (and possible uprade to a 120cm tank) to a 850 thermo which will replacing my eheim 2217.
Reason would be the bigger flow, option for internal heater, easier maintenance and the prefilter.
The flow is better compared to my 2217.
Internal heater works + less equipment...
I received the first part of the LED strips (forgot 2 cables to connect them to the controller (woops :P)
Because 1 T5 bulb broke down and 1 needs a change very soon (black ends) it was time to switch from T5 to LED.
The pros of my current lighting hardware was the simple...
Bought the TC420 yesterday. 2 of my 4 T5 lights where broken so i thought, its time to build in some LED :)
Ordered 1 white and 1 RGB led strip and can't wait to play with this new setup and build the LED into my current lighting system.
Found some modes here so i can test it (once the LED...
depends on the used scape.
You can look at this page and see some different kind of scapes and per scape there is an option to list the used plants: http://www.flowgrow.de/db/tanks
And also great for some scape inspiration and plant use :)
hmmmm needs more scape elements and plants.... Any tips? :)
New/extra plants to order:
- Cryptocoryne Balansae (for in the right back corner behind the wood)
- Staurogyne porto velho (Placed around rocks in foreground)
- Pogostemon Helferi (because its a nice plant :) Placed around some...
Time for a new scape and break down the jungle :p

I put the hose inside this tool (don't know how its called in english) and hang it on the tank side.
Normally used for the washing machine hose to bend :)
On the end of the hose inside the aquarium i put a filter inlet strainer.
This way the water won't flush away all the plants, sand etc :)
