    You could just use magnesium sulphate and calcium sulphate for GH and potassium carbonate if you want some KH. This will save you a ton of money. The IFC cert calculator will help you to work out quantities.

    In effect I’m pre filtering twice. One on the inlet pipe 40ppi and again on the Biomaster 30ppi. I’m not sure I really need both and I can’t see the internal one is doing much. The reason for the in-tank pre filter is to protect baby shrimp.

    So sorry to hear about this. Activated charcoal will work but if it were me I might try stirring the activated charcoal right into the water column directly, then filter out the charcoal. The culprit here is probably the permethrin in the Indorex Defence Spray and it is not very water soluble...

    The clue is in the name... the 'filter' is designed to filter, not push water around the tank. You can add a small powerhead to get the flow where you want in the manner you'd like it to be.

    Thank you all for your usefull replies. I have no carbon, but will get some tomorrow from the LFS. I suppose my remaining worry is that if they RCS die off overnight, will this cause an ammonia spike in the aquarium? Then causing problems to the fish. I suppose only time will tell.
