The lower the light intensity the easier things are. I have 1x 54w t5 over a 4x1.5x1.5ft tank and it sits nearly 1ft off the top of the tank . Im not familiar with your unit but if its dimmable then youre off to a good start. Start low and slowly ramp it up untill you see issues caused by to...
The first thing you need to decide is hi or low tech and the go from there low tech means alot less work.
Could you add a trickle tower to your sump? This would make an ideal filter from a fresh water point of view. The only but is if you use co2 the you need to seal things up and minimise...
When you say ledges do you mean bracing? My first 4ft tank was braced and I struggled to get external installation kits over the bracing. Also braceless is more astheticly pleasing even with glass lids fitted. Have you thought about putting your cabinet on wheels like Mark Evans' tank?
Thanks  :)
I personally prefer the long and low. When I rescaped this time I was tempted to take the tank to a glazier friend and have it cut down to 35cm high so how about 120lx55dx45h?
I think the octopuss tank you mean is my one? If so I currently have 20 cardinals and 10 cpds and very rarely see the cpds and could easily double or maybe even triple the tetra schoal without crowding the tank. I've always prefered a large schoal of a single species as it looks more effective...
Depends on the fish you want to keep the 120 will be better for swimmers like rainbowfish etc and offer more distance for territorial fish. The 90 offers more volume. The other thing to think about is arm length and the hight x depth if you have short arms then the 55x55 may be a bit to far to...
Hi and welcome:)
The issue with sumps is co2 loss, the co2 is always trying to get back to equilibrium with atmosphere and the more co2 you inject and the larger the gas exchange area ie trickle filter or overflow, the harder it is to keep it in the water. So you end up using more co2. The low...

This is my current set up. I have ended up with soil capped with a mix of sand and the moler clay. The soil is good for banking and I havent really given much though to how deep the layer is and just piled it in till it looked right...
I looked at using that stuff but came to the conculsion it would be to light. Under the straight bonsai soils on the same website there are 3 grades of moler clay Im using the fine stuff. Im also using argos playsand. In the previous scape I used the soil capped with unipac samoa coarse sand.
For soil use John Innes no3 most places like b and q , garden centres etc sell it. Cec = cation exchange capacity it is the ability to store and release nutrients. Cat litter has no nutritional value in itself but has the ability to absorb and release nutrients.
But you're so much more eloquent, I tend to be allergic to the written word.
Some spot on advice and Troi's tutorial is a good starting point. As an alternative to the cat litter Kaizen bonsai sell moler clay in differing sizes and then you dont need to deal with the perfume. Also most soils...
Welcome:)
6500k is considered daylight ish and you should be able to pick up orsam 865s etc for a few quid each. Why not go full low tech and just use soil topped with sand/gravel no easy carbo and only occasional dosing needed.
Im with you on the lambo  . You think your 106 was bad my b1600 had a 4 speed column shift. The Galant was the fastest only lightly modded with 350bhp at the wheels:D. Ive always had a passion for offroading and would love another lj70. Im hoping to get and then modify a jimny when we look...
I've not had the opportunity to do any serious offroading since moving over here mrs was always scared Id break the wagon. I must say to be fair to her I do have form, I killed the LJ70 offroading.
My Pajero was a 94 2.8d lwb and a very well looked after low milage jap import with all the toys for its age. I changed jobs and went from having a company van to commuting and the fuel bill was frightening. A list of cars hmmm Ive been through a few. My first car was a 1976 Mazda b1600 pickup...
Hi Dan, welcome to the forum.
I feel your pain about having to give up the 4x4. I had to sell my pajero just over a year ago and still miss it:( ( not as much as my surf though;)).
Maybe some floating plants would help?
Kia Ora,
Welcome to the forum. Where abouts in NZ are you from? I found a good article about using native spieces in the aquarium http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/Plants/NZ/
Hi All
