Ah ok good point. What about liquid carbon, does that degrade in light?
I ask because I’m thinking of geting 5liters of it on eBay for £25. But it looks like it’s in a clear plastic container and I always thought it needed to be in black like the easycarbo bottles?
Ah I see now, that's a shame that its steps down so small.
Would you think it would be possible to fit different 'fittings' to the canister i.e. 16/22 size to not restrict flow so much?
Maybe even replace with straight joints not elbow joints, surely this would help with flow too?
The noise is obviously subjective, but to me it was unusable without the mod, an extremely annoying high pitch whine.
Yes I agree other things make noise, but not anything like this kind of whine, Far more irritating than any other household appliance. If I had a fridge that made that kind of...
Even at 40% reduction it's still got to be better than what my current tetratec 1200 is turning over.
As long as it doesn't blow the pump, but I can't see it doing much harm, as I say you can adjust the flow on the taps.
I would have thought if anything it would to better to reduce the outflow not the inflow, as dont manufactures say it's ok to regulate flow on outflow taps if it's to strong, so reducing the pipe work would surly be the same as using the taps to reduce flow?
I have a fx5 that I would love to give a go in my 190litre.
Trouble is that everything ie heater, intake, spray bar, reactor are all 16/22 and to replace/DIY all these would be a real ball ache.
I've read a lot about how using reducers is a big no no but isn't reducing the filters...
seeing as the fx5 hose diameter is to big for a inline heater, and rather than split the pipe, has anyone tried drilling a hole for the cable and put a heater inside the filter it's self and sealed with cable gland/locknut type thing.
Ie like this...
Hi all, anybody happen to know the diameter of the o rings on the fx5's hose connectors?
Just brought a second had fx5 and they are missing and not paying for the fluval ones wen normal ones must be pence!
Measured it but not 100% sure and don't want to get wrong size.
Hi, no the media didnt really make much difference, I still ether get a build up of gas at the top of the bottle or if I put a shorter bottle in I get bubbles in the tank.
I'm pretty sure in my case the filter just isn't man enough (not enough flow through) to dissolve the gas without having it...
Iv private messaged you the email and pictures tmc sent me rich.
Could be wrong but it does look/read like all they do is snip, but yea if something went wrong it would be better if they did it wrong.
But it really is easy, only took small amount of pressure with the cutters for the caps to...
Ric3119 I took the caps out of my two yesterday took literally 5 mins each.
Just snip through the cap with wire cutters, don't pull, they kind of just cleanly pop off. Really easy, only what tmc would do if you sent it away. No more whining :)
Edit: cutting with wire cutters is what a member...
Does anyone happen to know how to stop the tmc tiles from making the horrible high pitched whine, I hear it's a simple snip or removal of a cap.
Would rather do it myself then send away.
Any info would be brill.
After a great trip to charmouth beach in Dorset last weekend and coming away with a few great looking root wood pieces instead of the planed fossils, I've decided to do a rescape.
Thinking a Monte Carlo carpet one side with large root the other covered with moss and maybe needle leaf java fern...
Let's just say that didn't work!
Misting a lot more than without inline, micro bubbles just seem to be flowing straight through filter housing and into tank and not churning around like with larger bubbles.
Next step taking out up inline and try a bit of corse filter foam in bottom of housing...
Yea I agree foxfish, it not ideal as i suppose you designed it be a alternative to ceramics.
But I'm thinking injecting smaller bubbles into it could dissolve co2 quicker and stop bubbles escaping....that or the smaller bubbles will just all join together to form larger ones once in the chamber...
I Installed the cartridge that Alje linked to on eBay today, fits great and I reckon one would find it hard to find a bottle that worked better.
For the price I would defiantly recommend over trying to find the perfect bottle :)
Saying that I'm still getting small bubbles escaping as I did...
Alje, that looks like a great alternative to a bottle. Am I rite in thinking that it fits over the inside neck part of the water housing head and the arches on the bottom let the water out? Any pictures?
Very easy, the filter housing is 15quid and the connectors are about a fiver, both from eBay.
I run mine from my tetratec ex1200 through a spray bar, flow has dropped but not massively, it seems like the better dissolvsion of co2 out weighs problem of the drop in flow, in my case anyway.
Hi nath, yea the old man has plenty of big clamps :)
Good shout on the glue, had a look and powered seems to be the best stuff to use! Was thinking on gorilla glue but do you reckon the one you mentioned or cascamite would be better?
Brilliant thanks alot James, those drawing will help a lot.
My dad has a biscuit joiner so was thinking of glueing and biscuiting instead of screwing or dowing.
Any reason why that wouldn't be a good idea?
I really want to give this a go, maybe build something similar to troi's . I think his looks fantastic.
There's just so many different floodlights on the market tho, with it seems like varying colour quality. So I'm finding it hard to make a decision.
They all come with a long warranty so I...
I've recently made one of foxfish's DIY 10' filter housing reactors running off of a tetratec ex1200 to replace a up inline.
Works brilliant, no bubbles at all and hc is looking lot more vibrant and now pearls like crazy.
Cost about £20 and half hour to set up.
Does lower flow but I'm...
Had a thought today, does anybody think that using a external filter with all trays and media removed with a bottle inside with its neck over the impeller output part on the filter head would work?
In exactly the same way as the the water filer housing but inside the external filter it's self.
Can anybody recommend any particular bottles?
The one I'm using at the mo let's bubbles out from the bottom, but I don't see them in the tank or spray bar :s
I'm not getting as quick of a ph drop or as much of a drop as when using up inline, but my hc is pearling mid way through the lighting...
Last summer I had my hc dry start growing for about 3 months, and like yours it did slow right down and look abit sorry for its self. So I decided to flood and it really shot off then, fully filled in within a month.
My experience was dry starting hc is brilliant to get it rooted so it stays...
Hi all, few of my ember tetras have developed what I think is fungus (white fluff, Ulcers) which I put down to stress from when my heater broke last week.
And tips for treatment?
Only med I have is prtozon, which say isn't shrimp safe due to copper (I have cherry and amino shrimp) anybody used...
Excellent, that's just what I hoping to hear!
Going to get one ordered and hope I have the same luck.
There must be smaller/finer mist being created by the new ceramic that dissolves better inside the filter.
so fingers crossed for no more burps and squeaks!
I personally wouldn't but I'm sure it would be a good option for lots of others.
Would you make them from mdf? Like the ones made here http://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/diy-ada-style-aquarium-stand.31348/
That would be great mate, would be well worth me buying one if the burping stopped!!
I've taken out ALL the sponges and about half of the ceramics and half of the black balls to try to increase flow and stop burping, it helped slightly but still does it!!
I know excess ferts do not cause algae in a high tech set up but have been wondering do excess ferts have any ill effect ie algae in a low tech tank, or is the only reason low tech tanks aren't dosed with high ferts because it is purely waist-full?
The way I was thinking (wrongly I very much suspect) is, for example, if I finish the week with 100ppm of say nitrate, when I do the 50% water change, I will start the week with 50ppm nitrate, so at the end of this week the nitrate ppm will be say 130ppm (or whatever) and will increase so on and...
Sorry to hijack but been thinking for a while, if we are dosing above what our plants need with EI, even with weekly water changes, won't the total ppm of ferts rise sky high over a long period of time?
Be grateful if someone could help me get my head around this. :)
Changed the 4dkh solution and now getting much less strange colours, so must have been dodgy solution.
Things seem to be running nicely, 1point ph drop before lights on, full EI, steady growth that I have trimmed a few times, have only been running one t5 light as was getting scum on surface but...
What is happening is on a regular basis the last hole on the spraybar is pushing out excess larger bubbles which I assume is co2. Why it is doing this and how to solve the problem I have no idea.
Hi Bertie, I had this EXACT same problem last week, the last hole was squirting out large co2...
Hi all, planing on getting some red cherries and aminos soon and just want to know if there are any signs to look out for in shrimp if the co2 is to high, or is it just a case of them jumping out of the tank ? ;)
Hi all, I'm trying to lower my co2 slightly so I can start to add some shrimp to my tank, tank has been set up for four weeks now and has been blasted with co2 With the drop checker always being yellow.
Co2 is on at 4
Lights on at 6
Co2 off at 10
Lights off at 11.30
Iv lowered injection rate...
