Is it safe to use a short amount of air tubing between the My co2 diffuser (I used a bazooka) and a glass U-bend and have the rest of the connections using co2 tubing?

I did once use a short length of blue silicone air tube to connect my CO2 in tank diffuser from bubble counter. After not very long the tube just went hard and brittle (especially the bit in the water), unlike the proper CO2 tubing.

CO2 will diffuse through/into silicone apparently, though I did read about someone who tried a huge length air tube in his tank to see if CO2 would be injected into the water, but nothing, in short term, happened. I suspect it takes a while for CO2 to affect the air tubing.
