I set up a 3x1' planted tank using Tropica Soil Powder about three weeks ago. I used a pre-cycled filter.
Although I have only changed the water three times, I tested the water last night using an API test kit and I was unable to detect any ammonia.
I've got to go away for a few weeks and leave the maintenance schedule to my family, so I want to condense my fish into just a few tanks, and this tank would be ideal if it is ready.
There are a few older threads suggesting that ammonia spikes tend to happen rather quickly with this substrate. But I just wanted to check what your thought are? It's my first time using it.
