Hey guys,

Wondering if someone could help me out. I recently started up my first ever pond, of course way too late in the season, but it's a small garden, and this was the only chance I had to dig one out, before all the new planting arrives.
Anyway, it's absolutely tiny, compared to some of the examples I've seen on here. It's basically 2 rectangular cement mixing tubs, 65 and 45 liter, one slightly elevated over the other to create a waterfall via a plant filter, and I made a mini brook from a planting dish, fed by another plant filter. Threw on some white pebbles and some marsh wood I had left over from my aquascaping days, added a little filter pump (600l/h), and plenty of plants: 8 pots of Acorus, 2 pots of Hydrocotle, a couple of Iris, and some Lysimachia n.

I have a couple of questions;
- currently, the plants are in the baskets they came in, sitting on a bottom of white gravel; I am thinking about changing this in the Spring, removing the gravel, adding pond soil, and planting the plants in the soil (will be adding plenty of seasonal plants come Spring, so this would make that a lot easier as well), and then maybe adding some fine white gravel; would you guys recommend this over the current setup (though I can pretty much guess the answer to this one)?;
- I'm currently dosing as if it were a planted aquarium; 1 tsp KNO3, 1.4 tsp KH2PO4, and 2 tsp MsgSO4; are these the correct doses? I dose just once a week, all at the same time; is that correct? And should I stop dosing for winter? Obviously when the freeze comes, but how long until then should I keep it up?

Thanks!

Paul.

I am guessing growth is ending ( short days, lower temps) so i would start halving doses each week now ( make one dose in a liter botle, give half of it, fill up the bottle with tap and give half a botle again next week,repeat for 2 weeks more and then stop.

Cheers for that!

And when should I start up again? Early to mid-March?

Well, after two days of nothing but rain, which coincided with the plants arriving, leading to me being drenched for two days straight, the plants are all in, managed to get everything clean again, so time for some new pics! I'm actually seeing quite a bit of growth, for the time of year; the Acorus has gone up quite a bit, as have the Iris, and even the Hydrocotyle is showing growth! The Lysimachia n. in the "rockery" has been in for about 8 days, and has already doubled in size! The mosses are doing great as well, both around the edges of the basins, as on the "brook"-side and on the wood. No idea what they are, as I foraged/ stole them from the woods near our house. LOL
I've stopped the ferts for now, and will be removing the white pebbles from the water basins, to put in a soil bottom, topped with fine white gravel. Hope you guys like it!
