I am reading from various sources that super glue is tank-safe, can anyone name a particular product/brand that I could purchase in the UK which will be fine to use?

Any is usually fine, I've used Tesco's own brand and Loctite.

Any gleu with small lettering on the backside should say contents Cyanoacrylates and it should be Gel.

I'd advise you to get the gel kind also. Be aware that when it sets, it will turn white. There is a brand that does a black coloured gel which is a much better option.
