Compared to its relatives this is a delicate & somewhat dainty plant, native to Sri Lanka and India. Leaves narrow, oblong to lanceolate & prefer to float on the surface. Narrow leaf petioles are usually the only part of the plant below water level. For this reason it suits small tanks where its larger relatives could never fit. Semi tropical to tropical native of Central & South America. Often found growing in boggy habitat or beside waterways, it seems happiest growing emersed or floating but will grow submersed with enough light. It tends to want to grow straight upward when submersed but can be persuaded to grow along the substrate with the right conditions.
