Fishes would be last thing I added after tank has matured some. Would resist running lighting for much more than eight hours a day. Gobs of fast growing plants for the majority.

If the tank is to Be Non CO2 injected, or low tech as some call it, I would not be too wild with light intensity. Is good that lighting can be shaded as you say. With or without CO2 injection,I would start at maybe 50% light intensity for no longer than eight hours a day.

Would be more concerned about child possibly pulling tank down onto herself or himself, once the get their little legs under them. They want to climb up and maybe get a better look.

I see mostly diatoms,and might consider some cherry shrimps that are relatively hardy,and love grazing on everything.(algae & diatoms especially). Keep floss/foam in filter clean by rinsing it out frequently in old tank water. Don't see much livestock in photo,and might use peroxide treatment...
