You could try Oryzias latipes very underrated fish or even Aphanius species from Europe all stay small enough for limited space

Managed to get some Cryptocoryne affinis which looks very much like what I was looking for also got some Cryptocoryne ferruginea

Yes affinis was mentioned but as you say not the same plant and Crypt. usteriana looks very much like it

looks closer ,also it was quite tolerant of low light and cooler temps
