I thought one of the bulbs had gone on my Rio 300 so have bought a replacement but no go. I've got old spare tubes so tried them in various combinations in case it was the tubes themselves. Still no go.

My last job was a fairly quiet one where I had lots of free time but was encouraged to "look busy" - ha! Sat at my desk doodling how I'd like my tank or next project to look
I am desperately needing Assassin snails for my BN plec breeding tank as the pest snails I have are trying to take over the world!
If I were to buy some off AC or ebay, or even here, is it likely they would make the journey by post? Do they travel well even when its cold?

Silly question - you just use the needle valve to determine the flow of CO2 into the 2nd tube and so into the tank? I've never done this before but have been looking for a cheap CO2 option for my low light set up. Please excuse my ignorance.

Well my tank cycled nice and quickly and I got some yesterday. They are wonderful! I fed them bloodworm this morning and they ventured out from their hidey-holes to feed, and since then they've been investigating almost non-stop. I love how inquisitive they are and I keep seeing more colours...

The ones in the shop - there were loads! - were quite inquisitive and seemed totally comfortable with me standing gawking at them. My OH wasn't too impressed by them - I did tell him they'll colour up. He said they'd look better when they grew...... I didn't reply :lol:
I do understand that.
What I meant was - if my not-densely-planted plants are using up any ammonia being produced by rotting food and whatever cr*p was in the old substrate, then how come in a densely planted tank with just a couple of fish as an ammonia source is there enough ammonia left over...
