Practical Fishkeeping wants your plant pictures

The November issue is running an article on ferns and I need as many different species and cultivars as I can get. The pics need to be hi-res and sharp, and if used I will pay you for them. I would also like a really nice fern scape to illustrate the piece. Any enquiries please contact...

    What's people's views/experiences with metal halides.....

Re: What's people's views/experiences with metal halides.... If you get it you might want to get a PAR meter to help you hang it at the right level. It will need to be at least 20cm above the water surface anyway to avoid excess water heating and to ensure sufficient spread of light. Do they...

    What's people's views/experiences with metal halides.....

Re: What's people's views/experiences with metal halides.... Hi Alistair, Advantages with Halide - units look great, brightest lighting available, choice of Kelvin and spectrums, glitterlines, point source. Disadvantages - Heavy to hang from ceiling, expensive to run, heat, glare, can be...

    growbeam tiles

Prospective TMC tile buyers may also want to consider the 1500 XG Ultima tiles. They are 9000K, 27 watts instead of 30, yet are even brighter. When launched they were the most energy efficient LEDs on the market.

Thanks for offering out the PFK PAR meter George LOL! I think you may have already bought them tony, but you won't need six tiles for a five footer. Four will be fine.

    Shallow - The Future?

What's the biggest Wabi Kusa that anyone has done? The great thing about these tanks is that the shallower you go, the thinner the glass gets and the cheaper it will be. Has anyone ever done a 120 x 75 x 15cmH Wabi Kusa, and what size does it have to be before it becomes another type of tank?

    Shallow - The Future?

It's all about the shallow rimless guys! I got the idea from this reef tank: http://www.leonardosreef.com/leonardos-lagoon/ Its 63 x 44 x 14" (mad cool dimensions!) and from the Elos 120XL tanks that are 120 x 80cm wide. Leonardo by the way is quite groundbreaking with his marine...

    PFK glassware blog

Dave Spencer, Why do you keep assuming that I cannot aquascape? And that I don't take aquascaping seriously? Also that I have no knowledge about flow? And what are you on about staged? It was seeing the state of Dan's glassware that made me write the blog in the first place, and the fact...

Check out my RSPCA news story and blog!

Hmmm, its difficult to win hearts and minds when as an organisation they believe that our hobby is fundamentally wrong. Maybe we could just about get away with continuing the planted hobby with plants and shrimp, but I like to keep fish in my tanks too.

Check out my RSPCA news story and blog!

It would appear that if the aquatics trade adheared to RSPCA policies on the keeping of animals in captivity, we would not have a trade , or any pets for that matter, at all? http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/p ... blogid=212 Its important that everyone knows the facts. Please leave a...

    glossostigma elatinoides carpet tank!!

I think that the tank is too small for Discus, and they really need to be in groups of five or more. Making them adjust to cooler temperatures isn't really ideal either, as the welfare of the fish should come first. I know you must love your Discus but I would either get a larger tank, and a...
