I think the Althernthea reineckii "mini" provided good colour contrast... what happened to it? (hopefully not lunch for the Amanos...)

It was just too obnoxious, it took all the attention, it also started to die off for some reason. The amanos have all explored out of the tank, i only have one or two left unfortunately.

Well, it's been quite the journey since I last posted here, started getting into rare plants, got ahold of some species.

Unfortunately the luck since then has not increased and basically all plants i bought and propagated has died due to filamentous green algae. I've been in battle with this same algae for over a year, tried basically everything and decided to quit. Around three months ago I decided to get into the hobby again, starting with eaiser plants and just trying to have fun again. So completely reset my horrifically neglected tank and tried to reuse some of the plants to create a completely unplanned dutch Scape. The algae is still present but since I'm no longer doing high tech its growth is more manageable. I'm hoping that with some changes to make my plants more healthy I'm sure I can beat this algae once and for all!!

Plant list: Limnophila wilsonii, Buce BG2011 and Marble, Rotala Hra, Eriocaulon sp. 'vietnam', riccia, heteranthera zosterifolia, eleocharis montevidensis, crypt wendtii 'braun'.

Here's some pictures.

Hi all,
has died due to filamentous green algae. I've been in battle with this same algae for over a year, tried basically everything and decided to quit. ..... The algae is still present but since I'm no longer doing high tech its growth is more manageable.
I think it is really difficult with the Green Algae, they have the same <"photosynthetic"> systems as <"all the higher plants">.

cheers Darrel

Not currently home, but I got my dad to send some pictures so I could kind of monitor it. Rotala h'ra is growing well and starting to turn red which is really exciting!

Also basically no algae maintenance has been done for over 1.5 weeks, so taking that into consideration the situation is not that bad. Although it will be almost 1.5 more weeks until I'm home. I'll update y'all then. I will also start doing some fertilizer again, which i haven't been doing, maybe even some co2 if I'm feeling fancy. I haven't decided on that yet.

I accidentally introduced hair algae into one of my tanks and I must admit to having gone down the chemical route as I had no livestock. Nice to see another low tech Dutch scape though!
I've tried multiple different chemicals, no effect.. I'm super tired of this algae but I think it's improving

Here's the update after 3 weeks with absolutely no maintenance, it could be worse actually. Eleocharis montevidensis is looking quite rough algaewise. This should be quite easy to take care of!

API algaefix was ordered and yesterday I started treatment. Hopefully this will end my almost 2 year battle with this vicious algae. Here's some before pictures, I will continue to update y'all every time I add more.

Update at dose 2 of API algaefix

I'm already seeing results, all of the algae has turned blueish, which in theory should mean that they're dead as no green means no chlorophyll. Although I'm seeing some melting of my zosterifolia leaves, which is quite prevalent on all stems. I hope it pulls through as it accounts for almost 50% of my biomass.

I also started dosing ferts again. This time with some help from @Happi my regime is targeting 1/0.14/1.5/0.1 N/P/K/Fe. It's delivered through Urea, KNO3, KH2PO4 and a premade micromix.
The micromix contains:
Iron (DTPA, EDDHSA) 20 g/l
Manganese (EDTA) 10g/l
Zinc 2.9g/l
Boron 4g/l
Copper 0.52g/l
Molybdenum 0.75g/l

Hopefully the algaecide + actual fertilizer will provide me with some healthy plants. I will do some maintenance and remove all the dead algae. The next dose is in 3 days and I will update you guys then.

Fingers crossed it works! I'm fighting the same battle so feel your pain! So far the green patina on my rocks is vanishing (which I actually liked) but I can't tell if I'm looking at dying hair algae or dog hair, which is also prevalent in my tanks!
A 2 year battle is finally over with me as the winner. They made no resistance when my siphon approached.

No algae anywhere to be seen. I've been victorious.. although with some minor casualties, my zosterifolia did not like the treatment and melted alot of its leaves. It's fine though as new growth has already appeared. Time to finally gave fun in this hobby again.
