Filter smells bad!

Hi all, finally got round to cleaning my filters on my tank after, frankly, neglecting it for a long period due to personal circumstances. On my larger tank I have two filters running, the second was added about 2/3 months ago.
It is only the new filter that smells but it is like an eggy smell and have had the filter off for a week which might be a reason why... not sure but other than that I am not sure what it could be and if it is ok to carry on using it in my tank once clean.
Thanks Ryan

A rotten egg smell is a sign of a sulphur containing compound like sulphur dioxide gas but in a fish tank anaerobic areas in a substrate can lead to hydrogen sulphide being produced. I think if you have had your filter off and there hasn't been airflow this is likely to be what is being produced to cause this smell.

Okay cheers, just gave it a thorough clean and is all good now :)
