Red Lights. Do they actually help?

I've tried searching for info about led lights that also have the 660nm red channel, but everything I could find related to aquatic plants was quite vague and contradictory. One article was saying that they reduce algae, another that they might help algae grow. Do you guys have any experience...

    Lighting Upgrade - 40cm Cube

Hi, Just wondered what lights people are running on their nano or cube tanks? Im running a heavily planted 40cm Cube with stock AquaOne LED lighting. Recently started injecting CO2 and am thinking the light could do with an upgrade too. I'm looking at the Kessil A80 - the gooseneck mounting...

    Wabi kusa lighting

Can anyone suggest an appropriate light bulb for a small/medium Wabi Kusa? It's about 20cm in diameter. I was thinking more like a generic light bulb rather than an aquarium/wabi kusa specific one. Could something like a 13w fluorescent work? Cheers

How long do lights *need* to be on?

Hello All! My tank (Fluval Roma 125) is now 6 months old and ticking over quite nicely, apart from the fact I'm still battling a bit of soft brown algae on the glass. My water parameters are fine so I'm thinking the solution may lie in reducing the amount of time my lighting is on. It was on...

    Opinions on Chihiros RGB please

Hi all, I'm considering an upgrade for my 90cm (https://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/stig-of-the-sump.48558/). The current lights are a bit of a bodge. Id like something better looking and that gives a nicer spectrum for viewing. Considering 2 x 45cm Chihiros RGB plus hanging rail. Avoiding the...

    Some Plants Dying

So I just went through the process of rescaping my 90Gal tank--from the ground up. I added 2x54 T5HO lights next to my Hagen LED, an additional API XP3 Large, and I added Fluorite sand and gravel substrate. I replaced some of my old plants and change my layout quite a bit, but a few of my...

Do t8 lights really degrade over time?

Hi all, I have 2x 30 watt t8 bulbs in my rio 180, co2, ei dosed planted tank, have had the bulbs for longer then I can remember and I'm thinking of replacing them as I've read that they lose their power after a year or so. Is this true or some another ploy to get you to buy new bulbs all the time?
