My giant vallis had started to yellow slightly recently and not grow as well as before. I stuck a couple of root tabs at the base of each plant and now it is growing great guns. My plants seemed to put out a lot of roots before it settled and put out new leaves.

I introduced some of this a few months ago and I have hard water, and it is definitely taking a long time to get going. I am using sand with root tabs and minimal column dosing and no carbon suppliment. In the last month it seems to have started to improve. If it is like my other Crypts it is...
Cryptocoryne Balansae, or Apongeton bulbs do well in my low tech. I have them planted in sand but I see now reason why they wouldn't work in gravel. Maybe some Vallis?

Shame it doesn't attach oh well. I have tied mine on with fishing line. My Angels have been hammering it though so I may have bought them a £5 salad! I guess only time will tell!
A bit like Ady has stated In my low tech tank when I add new crypts or move some of them they always seem to have a period where they seem to be rooting. After a while this changes over to leaf growth and leaf production.
I would give them a few more weeks to settle and see what happens.
I keep 7 plecs and Botia Kubotai in my ultra low tech 450l vision and I use cryptocoryne parva. Stays nice and small, is hardy and spreads via runners. It isn't fast growing in my set up at least but looks nice IMO.

Its my first try with anything delicate and I agree it seems tricky. Its definitely different to my usual crypt planting I don't even use the tweezers for those!

Hi,
I got some Hyro sp Japan from Alistair recently and was wondering was the best way to prepare and plant it was. It is from his carpet so is tangled together so I cannot seperate it out. Do I just push some of the roots into the substrate and let the rest do its thing or am I better...
Yep Ady is right. Your Blue Phantom has had them for lunch! My Blue Phantom can strip plants and veggies in minutes. I tend to keep hardy plants like crypts, anubias vallis and apongeton. Anything soft like Echinodorus will be eaten.

In my opinion they would be fine in a bucket of water. In fact soaking and thoroughly rinsing plants before putting them in your tank is advisable anyway to remove any possible contaminants.

Hi,
According to the Tropica site brown Wendtii does get bigger than the green one but aquaessentials website states they both grow to 30cm. My brown ones are bigger than my green but they are older more established plants. It would make more sense if the only variation is the colour then...
Crypt Parva is a small green variety that grows 5-10cm as does crypt Wendtii green and Wendtii Tropica. A lot of others are between 10-25cm in height.

I have the gigantea vallis and find that if I trim the older leaves at a 45 degree angle with sharp scissors they stop growing and I end up removing them at the crown. If the leaf is newer (slightly lighter in colour) they tend to carry on growing after the cut.
I get really good growth in a...
