Where to buy in East Anglia.

I think Ray the founder and owner retired back to Ireland and left the shop with Joe. Obviously his interests lay elsewhere.

    Looking for a 150-180cm aquarium

Aqua One gets my vote. The silicon work is excellent. The silicon work on the new version is not quite so good, it’s more of a very neat bead, but still better than most.

    nannostomus anduzei

Sounds great @castle, and nice fish selection. Hope you get it off the ground soon.

Welcome to the form. I'm sure one of the other members will be able to help you out. But have you tried asking your LFS to order them in for you?

    Aqua One 120cm optiwhite

Thanks for the review @castle, really helpful. Looks okay especially for the money.

    Hardscape Online

They don't sponsor us. But Aquarium Gardens, Scaped Nature and Horizon Aquatics do, better to support these and therefore support UKAPS.
  9. Tim Harrison

    Hardscape Online

Aquarium Gardens or any one of our sponsors. Give them an idea what you would like and they'll even put a scape together in a dojo and send you images. Don't buy blind you'll almost certainly regret it.

Looking for the best place online

Always best to support our sponsors, without them we would struggle to finance UKAPS. But aside from that they are all run by fellow hobbyists with a passion for aquascaping, which means their customers all benefit from a wealth of experience and knowledge. As well as providing quality plants...

    Zebra Nerite Snails

Same here, bought some Assassins form a supposedly reputable eBay vendor. They were packaged in a sealed petri dish with wet kitchen towel, one crushed, several DOA, two alive but died with a couple of days. The smell when I opened up the dish was horrific. Never again.

    Where to buy aquarium wood

Try Scaped Nature it's on your doorstep, they will probably still be selling online.

Where to buy in East Anglia.

    Scaped Nature in Norwich

    Pro Shrimp

Definitely worth paying a visit if they are only 30mins away. Plant choice when I went was pretty good. As was stock choice. It's more of a warehouse rather than a shop, so I guess they'll have everything that's on their website for retail.
  15. Tim Harrison

Suppliers of large wood and rocks

Not that I know of, the only places with that much hardscape are generally wholesalers. ALF stock hardscape in similar quantities. However, they are staunch supporters of the high street bricks and mortar shops so they will not sell to the public or even businesses with online presence only.

Suppliers of large wood and rocks

    Try ALF (Aquatic Distributors) Ltd

    Freshwater aquatics closed?

Judging by the comments on their facebook page they've gone out of business.
  18. Tim Harrison

    Pro Shrimp

Visited them a month or so back. It's not really a high street type customer facing business, more like a small warehouse geared toward online business. I think I got there around mid morning and it seemed to be all hands to the pump packing orders for delivery to online buyers. However, at...

Update on AG, they are now actually selling Cube Gardens, give them a call I'm sure they will order what you need.

i think AG might start stocking Cube Gardens soon. Drop them a line.

Plant suppliers in S. Derbyshire area

I've ordered plants all year round without any problems that I'm aware of, but then again the UK isn't often cursed with arctic conditions. Italian growers Anubias did or still do, use refrigerated display units to maintain plant quality in shops.
  22. Tim Harrison

Plant suppliers in S. Derbyshire area

I think when it comes to buying quality plants that are disease and pest snail free, most folk tend to order online, from reputable sellers like Aquarium Gardens https://www.aquariumgardens.co.uk/aquarium-plants-15-c.asp

    WTB Aponogeton crispus 'Red'

Welcome :) That's where I got mine a few years back.

    Rimless tank ideas?

I wouldn't necessarily recommend All Ponds Solutions, tank build quality and customer service aren't always the best https://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/aps-optiwhite-aquarium.50124/ Take a look at Aquarium Gardens, they have a range of rimless and braceless optiwhite tanks which are top...

    What's your favourite aquascaping shop?

Aquarium Gardens http://www.aquariumgardens.co.uk/, one of our sponsors, is easily the best dedicated aquascaping shop I've ever visited, especially since Dave has invested in a new and expanded showroom. It's well worth a visit, it's what I did today and took a few snap shots...

    Long thin tank?

I think you're probably going to have to have something made up. If you do a UKAPS search you may find a few recommended tank builders. There's also a guy on eBay, NACDesign, I haven't seen his work in person but he maybe an option. I've posted some pics of his work here...

Shops with good rock selection in Berks/Oxfordshire?

It's a bit of a schlep...but Destination Aquatics, one of our sponsors, in MK is easy to get to and usually has a great selection of aquascaping materials...if you're after something specific contact Glen first...http://www.ukaps.org/forum/forums/destination-aquatics.127/

Where can i get a male GBR?

You've done the difficult bit...I'd be lucky to find 1 female let alone 2 in my LFS; they're usually mostly all males. I wouldn't buy fish online, like Henry says Maidenhead is probably your best bet.

o_O :eek:Sorry can't help with the wood, but my advice would be to stop dressing like Jimmy Savile...it's terribly bad form these days, don't you know:bored:

    What's your favourite aquascaping shop?

No one high street retailer round these 'ere parts does everything that well to be a one stop shop. But living in MK has its benefits...occasionally. Destination Aquatics for hardscape, and plants...they stock this range Anubias – Piante d' acquario - Aquatic plants and they're pretty darn good...
