Visited Mount Saint Bernard Abbey today. It's a Cistercian Monastery set in beautiful Charnwood countryside. It has its own brewery and produces two types of beer, blond and ale, both are superb.

Impressive limestone pavement, with very well defined clints and grykes. Been there many times in the past, usually geology field trips.

Been out and about during the holidays. Lost Gardens of Heligan Closer to home Part of a disused Victorian water works. The central pagoda is a lantern that allows natural light into an underground reservoir below. Wild garlic growing everywhere, and second image below starting to flower.

Very much looking forward to this book being launched.

Wild untamed wetland

Wetland in the parkland of Wollaton Hall, Notts. It's closed to the public and minimally managed. A truly magical place that's supposed to be home to fair folk ;)

We were looking to buy there a few years back. It’s very expensive but also very desirable. The high street reflects that. Either way it’s a beautiful part of the world and I guess that’s the point.

I think you're right on both counts Darrel. The floating penny wort is becoming a problem, choking up drainage ditches and growing along the margins of the river Soar. Yes it's not bad. We can hope. Maybe the Catchment Based Approach will help.

Autumn in my local woodland, taken on a walk today. It's Ancient Woodland and a SSSI and was recorded in the Doomsday Book, so it could be a remnant of the original wildwood that grew to cover the country in the wake of the retreating glaciers around 10.000 years ago.

Nice...tho' judging by the hollow, and the splintering and the total lack of burnt wood I think it more likely it lost a bough in the wind. The bark would have been striped back as it tore free.

I've been reading that full frame mirrorless cameras are giving the equivalent DSLRs a run for their money. I've been giving some thought to buying a descent camera and it's looking like mirrorless is the way forward. What do you reckon?

Haha...OK, now I look at again it I can see it's pretty bigo_O:rolleyes:. But if it was made of brass it'd been long gone and melted down, as happened to a few park sculptures around were I used to live in Essex:( One of them was huge and mounted on a 20ft plinth but it still disappeared one...
