Hi guys,
does anyone have a working email address for Aquael? I need to get hold of them as I have a filter issue drawing in air.
Seems the contact form doesn't work on their site?
Cheers
I'm after an Optiwhite ideally and want something nicer looking.
Another consideration is that the ND Aquatics tank is on an 8 week lead time. :(
I'd like the bigger tank but think the smaller 60cm tank would be easier to manage and I would be more confident the kit I have would be able to...
Thanks for the reply. Yes, it would be a nice project but time is limited to weekends and even then, the time is limited. Also, the ability for me to carry out a professional looking job is what worries me more. The design you showed was perfect for what I want, perhaps only with the addition of...
I know Rob. I'm just waiting for a quote back from ND Aquatics for the direct comparison however I'm not sure I have the time or inclination to build my own cabinet.
Specifically then, what lighting would you put on each tank? Been reading up on this PAR measurement and it seems a good idea to...
Well, the tank is scratched and is getting on for 10 years old so I'd say I'm due another one :)
For the lights, the starter was damaged during the move and now doesn't work. I know George removed the brace but I think this was on a smaller tank. I would not risk removing the brace on the 180...
Hello All,
I've posted a couple of times in the lighting and hardware forums but as this question is all encompassing I figured I'd put it here.
I've just moved house and previously I was running a Juwel Rio 180. Its a bit scratched and a bit retro for my new lounge so I want something that...
Luis,
The problem is that until you are into fish keeping your not likely to be into planted tanks. Therefore you buy inferiour equipment beforehand and ent up needing to replace a lot of it. If PFK could give articles on that transition people would learn more in my eyes. After all i think we...
Having subscribed for about 2 years I've just cancelled my subscription to this. I found that it all got a bit stale and lacked anything to grab my attention.
One feature I think you should implement is something along the lines of 'Pimp my Tank'.
ONly experienced plant keepers can set up from...
I did think about a longer bar but as it stands the bars from the two filters stretch the length of the tank so thought this would be ideal for even flow around the tank. I just cant seem to see the best way of doing it, especially with the Koralia.
Perhaps ditching the spray bars is a good...
The tubes are little over a year old i think. I'm not sure i can remove one tube. I think the lamp starter requires the 2 tubes to be connected for it to work.
Anyone have any thoughts on the position of my outlets to ensure the CO2 from the one filter is dispersed all over the tank?
Cheers Dan,
AndyH suggest an atomiser type diffuser so maybe I'll give that a go. I've not been on for a while but I gather that people are very happy with their results using them.
I don't think i have any problem with the amount of flow, but maybe the configuration/placement of the inlets...
Hi Guys,
Hope everyone is well!
Im writing out of a little bit of desperation as after nearly 5 years in fishkeeping I still cant get my tank right and I struggle to grow some typs of plants and keep algae at bay. I'll give a detailed run through of what i'm running and the problems I'm...
James,
Have you got any documentation of your current regeim? I'm thinking exactly the same as you and i'm now running lower light but I'd be interested to see others dosing strategies.
The fish welfare part of this thread is a difficult one. I fully agree that the planted tank hobby has...
Hi Guys,
I've just uprooted all my plants to give the tank an overhaul and i was disturbed to find masses of fish poo and detrius amongst the bases of my stems behind my wood ect.
How do you guys stop this buildup? I have been having ongoing green spot and/or green dust algae and this cant...
But then again if the contents not in the right place then its never going to improve. Theres always going to be higher traffic areas on forums. All we can do is encourge people to view the less trafficed areas.
In response to the lack of Journals thats been noted, I am please to have started my own details journal in the journals section! It would be fantabulous to have your feedback.
and to keep things on topic, what elements to a journal are you most interested in? Pictures? technical specs? fert...
I think the rules of not showing tanks before entering into competition is simply pish.
Its strangling the devlopment of the hobby in this country because the people who are into it take it very seriously. Thats not a dig but an observation. As people start to get into it, or even look to get...
Re: BECAREFUL WHEN BUYING FROM THESE SHOPS
this isnt a slanging match. Simply reviewing a trade retailer which is a simple concept and dispite what they may say, is perfectly legal and is in no way a case for a liable prosecution. Its an opinionated thread and in no way are we saying any of...
Re: BECAREFUL WHEN BUYING FROM THESE SHOPS
Indeed they are very odd.
I bought my Koralia from them and had an email saying it had been dispatched. 4 days later still no koralia so i emailed them and i got a reply saying they were waiting for a delivery of them... yet i had an email saying it...
Can you not do that please???!!
I read the title and immediatly leapt from the sofa singing 'Aowwww pretty ladies... around the world... Got a weird thing to show you... So tell all the boys and girls"
Yes.. i have had a drink :D
Word Up!
Fantastic news not just for us but the UK planted scene in general I feel.
Not everyone can go for tropica simply because they are so damn expensive and while quality may initialy be a little worse than Tropica I think they grown in to just as good as tropica with the right care.
I can see an...
Me too... i cant get anywhere near that. something isnt right with my aquamas reactor or the flow from the filter is not sufficient enough. I'm not sure which.
The thing is an auction site would take some serious marketing and would need a lot of time to become sucessfull.
I dont see the point in a blog site because theres numerous forums where people would prefer to go unless you are some aquascaping guru with ground breaking discoveries.
Why not...
I'm the same and am going through a lul in enthusiasm... so much so i havent been on here for a couple of months. I still try and keep the tank looking good though and I'm still battling with GSA which I think really dents your confidence.
I'll still bounce back though... the missus will make...
right, I'm good to go tonight. camera was sent back AGAIN!! But now been sent a brand new one so i'll grab some decent ones tonight with a bit of luck.
You know, this site is missing a blog. Forums are great and can have all the information on the world but a blog gets peoples attention. I think with one of them we coudl get articles from the best aquascapers in the world.
Is there a thread over at APC? I havent been on to check.
I think to be fair its going to be so difficult to give every person an individual place concidering the amount of entrants each year.
Incidentally, I got my first issue last week and thought it was a pretty good read. I even read the marine and ciclid pages!
Pretty good read and I think everyone who likes fish (rather than aquascaping) would find it a worthwhile purchase.
I wouldnt mind hosting a BBQ or something when the gardens looking a bit better. I've only met Dan from here but would love to get in with the crowd as it were. :)
Yeah, sure. It was just so you could actually see if it was any good for what you wanted. I have the hi-res ones at home so i'll take some more and email them all over and you can pick and choose.
Hi guys,
I notice a lot of you are very strict on the removal of organic waste but I havent really seen decent definition of exactly what that means (i.e. rotting plants, fish poo ect)
Also, what do you do to remove each of the different catagories? (i.e. gravel vac ect)
I know this will help...
1. Is the standard lighting in a rio180 ok for a planted tank. I want carpeting plants, i have heard they are ok as they are the new high lights t5, i might add reflectors would this be ok?? - YOu might need more depending on what type of carpeting plants you want.
2. Regarding the filter its...
Just been down the LFS and bought a new Via Aqua nano tank + stand with overhead luminaire, with under gravel filter and an additional heater, all for 50 quid! Looked them up and they go for more than double the price here: http://www.hobbyfish.net/index.php?prod ... 18silverug
The luminaire...
I thing the fertilisers should be counted seperate really as its more of a consumable and not hardware. Taking that out of consideration i think you've got yourself a good deal there. I'm not sure on the lighting though as the WPG rule doesnt count for tanks under a certain size.... (dont quote...
Hi Guys,
I'm interested in giving a nano aquarium a go but cost is something i'm concerned about.
Does anyone have a rough estimate of how much one woudl cost to get started excluding plants? I think my main worries are the lighting and CO2 as I'm not sure of the alternatives to refillable...
Hi Guys,
A bit of an update.
Growth has started all over although i'm getting more green spot appearing all over the tank so today I modified my solution and doubled the amount of PO4 by adding 3 grams of Mono Potassium Phosphate to the remaining 500ml of PPS solution.
The blyxia has vibrant...
Thats the sized tank I was going to get in my dining room but other devlopment work on the house has put that on hold. This time next year I fully expect to get going with this and might even call the experienced member over to give me a hand!
You've got some talent Dan. You're tank is pretty amazing especially when you see it in real life.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dan today when I picked up his cardinal tetras. Top bloke!
Its certainly a new development although i'm not sure if it is only happening on 1. I cant remember off hand. It was tropica post it came from so i'm a little bemused to how it would have gotten in there if it was another species.
Incidentally, i'm wondering if my fortunes are turning. The...
The valis is actually valis nana. Before thes problems though it grew a bright green, the same colout as it was when I bought it. Same with the Blyxia.
One thing I forgot to ask is about the photo below:
Whats the deal here? The vallis new growth and blyxia growth are very similar. It looks like its green spot but its not. Its actually the colour of the leafs!
Thanks for the responses guys. Answer to some questions:
CO2 could have been one and probably still is for the moment as I'm trying to get to the levle of co2 I need without relying on the PH electrode to switch the co2 off when it hits the target PH.
Water movement should be good with my two...
Hi Guys,
I've taken some pics for you to analyse.
Heres the full amount: http://www.tfsuncovered.co.uk/leeandlou ... iciencies/
They are still uploading so give them a few minutes for all to show.
All feedback apreciated and many thanks for everyones comments so far. I've spent a small...
Yes, I'm certainly going to go down a different route but I've still got a good amount of the soltion left so didnt really want to just tip it down the sink. Not sure really then if its worth doing much with it.
From what you're saying James, is it possible that I am adding too much CO2 or...
Thanks Ceg, thats a pretty good explanation. So from what you've said there, I would be closer to the targets if I was dosing 20ml per day of the macro solution?
that would make sence thinking about it because I noticed a slight amount of green spot which can be caused by low phosphates...
Here's whats in the bottle:
Macro Solution
In 1 liter bottle:
59 grams K2SO4 (Potassium Sulfate)
65 grams KNO3 (Potassium Nitrate)
6 grams KH2PO4 (Mono Potassium Phosphate)
41 grams MgSO4 (Magnesium Sulfate)
Fill with distilled water and shake well. Let sit overnight.
Micro Solution
In 1...
Fully open it goes directly to 2 bar. The regulator is a JBL one so whether they altered it I dont know. I assume its the one on the right otherwise the other one to the left would be massivly difficult to get to 2 bar as it goes up to 50 :)
I fully open the co2 bottle and let the needle do the rest, coudl this be my problem?
On my sized tank, 1bps wont be sufficient would it?
Edit: Scrap that, fully open or not doesnt make much difference.
I dont actually have any algea problems. Thats one thing I've been able to sort out whenever I have had it which I tent to have a knack if doing.
I use the Ph controller for failsafe but the solenoide valve is so sensative that I can be opening the needle by 1mm and there will be a good...
Hi guys,
I'm not really sure what I'm posting for and not really sure what responses I'll get back but I'm feeling a little big disapointed and not confident about growing aquatic plants.
For the years I've been fishkeeping I've spent most of the time striving for a planted tank but I really...
Reading James thread got me thinking. Using small amounts of Akadama, do you think we coudl use it as a KH lowering mechanism? I've got pretty hard water and though itmight be a way to lower the KH a little without needing RO.
Not something I'm planning on trying but i'm curious if something...
Huh? The forum isnt the place for some light heartedness?? (If thats a word!)
I still dont see what their point is though. Its almost like saying no one can see the tank, in the flesh as well as digitally.
I'll be damned if I can find it at the moment. I'll check my hisroty when I get back to work on monday.
Andy... surely it has to be a woman? They are so bloomin tempramental!
During a prolongued period of inactivity (otherwise known as skiving) I decided to read some rules on aquascaping competitions and I was very entrigued by the rules on sharing photos and updates of an entry that will be entering a competition.
What are your feelings on not being able to show...
I'm seriously concidering setting up a planted tank equipment shop, not on my own but as a division of an existing LFS. Theres always opportunities for the customer who prefers a walk in service. Coupled with healthy fish for the standard aquarist its a pretty good bet that 'joe/joanne public'...
One thing i would say is that it will start to look cluttered with the random pics and the latest additions bit as more and more albums are added.
Pictures are a great resource so i think its vital we populate this with information as well as the normal showing of tanks.
A journal album would...
It just seems kinda random that we have ablack messageboard yet white main site. To establish an identity i would think it best to have a matching theme throughout the site.
Incidentaly, just checked the opening page and its stil the same. Forced a refresh incase it was a cached page but still...
Well done on the forum chaps! Just got a couple of pointers that i wanted to put forward.
firstly, i think the black on the forum is really hard on the eyes and think it should be in keeping with the design of the main site.
On the main site, the size of the header just goes out the 1024 x...
