Anyone in the Oxford/Oxfordshire area could you tell me if and where there are any good places to get cheap co2 cylinders or co2 fe and the prices?

Thanks

I'm not sure on the price of a new one but ctc in Witney will swap a 5kg pub cylinder for £18

At your work, library, post office, shops take a note of the phone numbers on the extinguishers and phone the numbers. That's what I did and get 2kg FE's delivered for £10 ago.

Ian I did do that and got quoted something like £75 for new fe and maybe £20 (ish) refills. I'll have another look around.

That's pretty much the same prices I've received when asking around (I live in Witney btw) the best price I found was from a place in Didcot but can't remember the name of it and they were actually reasonable with cheap refills.

Also try "pub gas suppliers" in yellow pages. Generally though smallest cylinder is 6.3Kg. Be careful some pub gas is actually 30-60% CO2 with rest nitrogen, cheaper but not for fish tanks.

Sometimes Ebay has 2Kg FE's for £20 odd.

See if any of the FE suppliers will sell you old "past their test date" FE's. Not suitable for putting in offices but fine for fish.

Thanks Ollie I'll try to find out who the company in Didcot are, I remember one company I found was located there. And thanks Ian, I'll keep that in mind.

Not sure, it rings a bell but it may just be one of the ones I called.

Just called ctc fuels, they have "waist height" CO2 cylinders: £34.24 hire and £18.90 refill. A good price, but not the right height for cabinets and may even be to big to lift (?)

That's what I have, 5kg co2 and I think 36kg total. I can double check later and give you the full dimensions if you want?

That would be great, thanks. How do you move a 36Kg cylinder, up stairs?
Tank is 83cm tall, 12.5cm diameter and 41kg filled. As for moving it um...... carry it? I can pick it up with one hand.....

Really? Sounds heavy to me but yeah I guess I can manage. Thanks for taking the time to get those measurements, I really do appreciate it

No worries, I am a fairly big chap and sometimes forget that things I can lift easily alot of people struggle with(I was asked to have a guess at the weight of a rollcab for shipping, picked it up and guessed 40-45kg. It turned out to be 80 ) . Get a mate to help you if you need too, don't go busting your back.

Just bought a 2kg fire extinguisher from Red Box Fire, Didcot for £10! They were really helpful and let off a fe without a horn to demonstrate the power of it. So now I am super safety conscious. Tbh its pretty terrifying...
